Both my soup and calamari salad came out room temperature, as if they had been sitting out a long time. 3 days of vomiting and diarrhea followed.
The Brick is AWESOME to just go and grab a drink and the food is decent as well. Great atmosphere, anda fun envrionment with friends. I've gone here for 5 years, including my college graduation in 2007. I highly suggest it.
By husband and I are new to the area. We have now eaten at the brick 3 times and planning 4 tonight. The salads were great and we also enjoyed the fish tacos. The brunch menu on the weekends has a nice brunch selection. This is a great place to eat. It is so refreshing to break away from the chain restaurants and enjoy a place as charming as the neighborhood it is in.
I went with several old friends of more than 40 years to have lunch. We choose The Brick because it is quiter than a well know resturant down the street. The food was okay. We were greeted pleasantly and seated at a great table. It was not busy at all.Our waitress did not offer us water. She did not offer more coffee two of the group had toask twice. We were handed our checks and were not asked if we wanted dessert. For the area and the price you have no service. I was very dissapointed. With the economy the way it is, service is a must. When an expensive place like yours is so lacking in service there is no reason to go there.
Headed back tonight after a single experience. Very warm, very good food and I tasted everyone's in our party of 5. My name is Robin Pierce. I eat all of my meals out and frequent approx 35 restaurants. This is a good one.
Atmosphere...charming inside and out. Staff...pleasant enough. Cocktails...average. Caesar salad...tasty. Entrees...steak, chicken, and pork...mediocre, moist and very bland...in that order. Desserts...creme burlee, key lime pie and white chocolate key lime pie...ALL WRETCHED...if that's possible. Prices above average. Overall...more than adequate for drinks "with a view"...but if you're thinking about dinning out..skip this one!
I think some of the bad reviews must be old from when the restaurant was just beginning, because everything was fantastic when I went recently. I recommend giving it a try again. It has vastly improved. The steak was cooked perfectly and the manager was very friendly. I am happy Jacksonville has the Brick.
If you have plenty of time, this is a great place for dinner. The wait staff wasn't particularly quick or attentive, but the food made it worthwhile.
I had filet mignon, and am fairly fussy about how my steaks are cooked, but they did it perfectly (medium rare). If you're in the neighborhood, this is definitely a good place to stop for dinner.
The outside seating on a beautiful day can't be beat. The food is another matter. We have never had a great meal there and today was no exception. My wife ordered the bbq pulled pork sandwich with a peach salsa. The pork was absolutely bland and the peach salsa was fresh from a can. If you want to go there for a drink and to enjoy the sidewalk seating I say go for it. If you want a good meal I say skip it.
This was the first time I had been to the Brick and a band was playind and I thought it was the best band ever that was playing that night the food was melt in your mouth good. It was the best crab cake I had had in my years of living.
The food was tasty, but they could use some acoustical help. Even without the music it's a noisy restaurant! My mahi-mahi was cooked to perfection, and the wait staff seemed helpful, though not over-attentive. The music started just before we were leaving; just a quiet guitar at that point, so it was not intrusive. But I've heard that the musical dinn can be daunting. I guess the clue is to dine early. I will go back.
We love this place. Always run into friends and business aquaintances. Food is also great. We have tried almost everything and have yet to be disappointed. The ribs are a favorite and the scallops...best I have had! Brunch is wonderful on Sunday. Best grits and Bloody Mary's in town! Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
Located in the quaint neighborhood of Avondale, we had high expectations for our meal as we waited for our table among the hip diners and drinkers. This popular Friday night spot is not a place for an intimate dinner or quiet reflection, rather a venue to soak up ambiance & live jazz music and to people watch.
Finally seated, our attentive waiter was happy to discuss the specials and menu items. Sadly, his warning that the "Spicey New York Strip" was "really spicey" was completely unnecessary for the bland hunk of chewy meat he delivered. My wife's tuna steak was a nice portioned, good quality steak of tuna that the chef doused with olive oil, overcooked but otherwise neglected. It occurred to us that the restaurant must have gotten a great deal on a bulk olive oil purchase and passed the savings onto us. Who could've expected such olive oil generosity on our asparagus, tomato and tuna?
the brick restraint is thought to be good because its one of the few upscale and covenant restraints in Jacksonville i have been there with family many times for that reason it has a nice atmosphere and have tables outside which is nice you are usually save with the fish sandwich but last time it was a mistake i know more about the food than the wait staff are waiter asked my friend it cut into a piece of meet to see how it was cooked but it had already been cut it half people that do not know much about fine dinning would like this restraint but for me its overly expensive for the food and service resized i would rather go to a real fine dinning restraint of which the brick is not
Being from the North, we spend alot of time on testing food quality. Our party found the Brick to have delicious Bloody Marys. The peppered vodka was a nice addition. The opinion of the servers is always to be believed in my estimation and they didn't steer us wrong. We ordered the hot turkey sandwich on ciabatta bread and it was wonderful! On a damp, slightly chilly day, we sat outdoors with two heating lamps running and listened to the rain while we munched and visited. A memory. Thanks
My husband took me to The Brick for a relaxing dinner. We had a wonderful evening. The Brick is in the center of the Avondale community surrounded by beautiful older homes and quaint shops.
My husband loved the scallops and you must try the Brie appetizer. The soup was phenomenal and waitstaff was respectful and competent.
Most importantly, the restaurant was clean. It is so hard to find a restaurant that you can feel comfortable. I highly recommend this restaurant. Pricey, but worth it.
We've been to the 'Brick' numerous times and have always been more that happy with the food, service, and atmosphere. We often take out of town guests there for the small town feeling of Avondale and a wonderful evening at 'Brick'. We drive quite a distance for the experience and highly recommend it to all of our friends! Great martinis and deserts, also!
The Brick in Avondale is one of the best restaurants in Jacksonville as far as I'm concerned. I have been there numerous times and I have never ever been disappointed. The servers are polite and friendly and the food is outstanding.
My favorite is the Crusted Grouper. It is so light and melts in your mouth. Their cole slaw is to die for. The only problem that I encounter is the parking, but the parking is always bad in Avondale so it really doesn't bother me. (They also have outside tables which is great when the weather cools off.) Try this restaurant, you will be so glad that you did.

My food was undercooked and the manager Steve didn't seem to care. He told me that it looked good to him and that he was sorry that I didn't like it. I had high hope for this place, but was very disapointed. Take you chances if you want to, but I would go somewhere else.
The food is great, the waitstaff rocks, and the live music is awesome. Great taste all around! Everyone looked like they were having as good of a time as I was. There were no children running amok, or obnoxious saturated bar folk. It was a lovely experience, and I will be returning to The Brick for many dinners to come.

The Brick is a great place for all kinds of dinning. Business meetings, meeting friends, date night and ok for kids too. The food is resonable in cost and taste great. My favorite is the seafood tower. If you become a regular the wait staff treats you like gold. Happy hour is fun and really lively on Friday's. If dinning alone you can always sit outside at a high top table or at the bar. The clientle is mostly Avondale residents. I recomend giving it a try.
