Gourmet Village is a gem. The service is excellent. The waiters are always very attentive and fast. The food is the best Chinese I have ever eaten. I've tried many of their dishes and have never been disappointed. The lo mein, almond chicken, and beef in garlic sauce are personal favorites. The prices are also very fair. If you sit down, you receive free tea, an appetizer, and fortune cookies and orange slices for dessert, all tasty!
Go and order 2 orders of fried dumplings, truly outstanding, better than NYC or DC, outstanding with red pepper paste and their dumpling sauce. Have some hot and sour soup, also excellent. Everything else is just good to maybe very good. But the dumplings are worth the trip. Nice people.
Let me preface my review by noting that I grew up around Chinese restaurants as my immediate and extended families owned 4 restaurants in the Raleigh/Durham, NC area. Thus, I think I may have some decent experience with Chinese food.
The fried dumplings at Gourmet Village are hands down the best I've had in the area. I think the dumpling sauce has an added amount of garlic, which makes this culinary experience quite good. Otherwise, the food at Gourmet Village is above average for the area. Lunch portions of fried rice or lo mein will be enough for two and you get a choice of soup as well all for less than $6 with tax included.
The complimentary Jasmine tea is excellent, especially for the cold days of winter. Almost every dish I have had has been very good. Not spectacular, but definitely better than most others if you know how to order Chinese.
Go for the specials, such as the Sizzling Pan-Fried noodles, a Hong-Kong favorite. I highly recommend this place for good Chinese food. They also deliver at a $1 upcharge, which makes it convenient for the busy campus working types.

Actually, I think the food there is better than average manderin restaurant in town, if you know what to order. My favorite is chicken with black bean sauce. Lot of green pepper, red pepper, broccoli and no deep dries. Besides, it's the only restaurant in town that let you choose white rice or brown rice, plus free tea/soup.

Some dishes are ok, like your standard sweet and sour chicken. But if you hope for something not deep fried, you may not find it. And if you do, the meat (especially beef) is chewy and grizzly. Ambiance is good, nice place, but they are definitely one of the chinese places to have "mystery meat".
