No concern for mistake written by Tomct

On 11/10/06 I took my grandson to dinner enroute to UConn for a basketball game, also to check out the remodeled facility. It looked great, and we have always enjoyed the menu, portions, staff, and service. It's a little out of the way for us so not a convenient stop, so we don't go as often as we'd like.

Well, we may have made our last stop!! Service has gone downhill, as it was VERY slow, yet with a RUSHED feeling, not a good combination!!

Skipping some details, the bottom line was they brought the 9 yr. old veal parm instead of chicken parm. I reached across the table and quickly cut up about 1/3 of it, not noticing the mistake. Though he "loves" chicken parm, he was unable to detect the veal smothered in cheese and sauce and buried under a heap of shells n sauce.

I thought nothing of one comment about it being chewey until he had another chewey bite. I took a piece myself and saw it was veal. I asked him how it was, and he said "OK". I told him it was steak instead of chicken, and he still said it was "OK", but he wouldn't eat anymore. I can understand the feeling, and I'm sure he was just turned off by the thought he was eating something he had no idea what it was!!

Since it was now late, due to the slow service (our waitress, Tracey, had tables at 3 extremes of the room), I informed her of the error, she said sorry, and asked if we wanted anything wrapped. Sidenote, she was a bit flustered for herself, and messed up the wrapping, too!! The bill was $28.20, she made no mention of changing it, and took my $40. She returned with change, making a point that she put in the 20 cents, and gave me a $5 bill and 7 ones, obviously the old waiter trick to make sure you have tip change. When she mentioned she "told him" about the mistake, I told her "HE" owed you a tip!! She had a sarcastic remark about it not being her fault, so I asked to see the manager (owner I think). He happened to be at the register as she told him that I said he owed her a tip. I told him what happened and he said "It was a mixup where I got the veal and someone else got the chicken". She piped in that "half of it was gone". First, it was a 9 yr. old, second it was about 1/3, and 3rd, 4th 5th, I'll spare you.

Needless to say I was shocked at the owner's lack of concern, and I just don't see us going there anytime soon. I guess the new expansion has taken its' toll on the pocketbook and an expanded staff, as they could not offer any means to pacify us with a credit, future credit, or even a strong apology. We were treated like we were at fault, after we took action in a quiet manner without letting anyone else in the place know of the problem. We sure got treated like dirt!!
