I really enjoyed the food and the service at my first visit to Sawyer's. I moved to Lansing from Detroit. I am used to getting up on Saturday mornings and heading out to breakfast. Well, one of my co-workers told me about Sawyer's. I was not diappointed. The food is top of the line. I had a hard time deciding what to eat as those plates were passing me by going to other patrons. They serve Eggland's Best. I buy those for me and my family, too. The service is excellent. My breakfast was the #2 combo with eggs, country fries, sausage (it looked like a hamburger patty), french toast and coffee. Mmmmmm!!! Especially the music was good old clean: Oldies but Goodies.
Soup was served cold. My grilled cheese was good, but the fries were cool and limp. Pancakes were a hit.
I went to Sawyer's for the first time with three coworkers a few weeks ago at lunch time after hearing good reviews. The menu is lengthy, but perhaps too much so for a place of this size. I think they need to focus a bit on their specialties and concentrate on what they do well.
Service was good overall. A few gals seemed to be in attendance, but some were clearly more tuned in than others.
I will try Sawyer's again. I appreciate their mission/vision of using wholesome ingredients. I hope they impress more the next time.
Edit 7/9/09: I visited again a couple weeks ago, with a party of 14 or so for lunch. It took considerable time for our orders to be served, but I will cut some slack to the kitchen owing to the size of our group. There are no complaints about the food this time though. I had an omelette that was superb! The waitstaff was awesome too.
Sawyer's is a great place to eat. I still think they are overreaching in terms of their menu, but as long as they can keep up I will keep coming back.
I first went there with my girlfriend on 12/26/08 armed with a 25.00 gift cert. from my sister for X-Mas(who had been raving about the place since May when she discovered it thru Robin Swartz food rating in LSJ.com) It was about 1:30 P.M. the place is small and personal with a smiling and funloving staff who loved telling us about the real food and differences between Sawyer's and every other good restaurant i.e.all natural and organic everything made from scratch. I had Super omelett and Blueberry Minicakes (there claim to fame) Nicole had the Peanut Butter- Chocolate French Toast and turkey links---we both agreed that it was the best breakfast we had ever eaten! yesterday (on our forth visit) we tried the Apple smoked BBQ Pork and Yellowfin Tuna Melt with sweet potato fries and the homemade lemon cheesecake-we can't go back to eating procesed food out of a box, when you can eat great tasting food that is good for you and only costs about two dollars more than IHOP!
