Bierock Aficionado written by relolley

Bierocks (the correct spelling, by the way) are of German-Prussian, or Prussian-German (you say potato, I say spud) origin. I grew up in Russell, Kansas, which has a large G-P influence. More importantly, Russell had Simpson’s Bakery, makers of the largest and finest bierocks on the planet. As a teenager, I consumed more than my fair share of these 1-pound gut-busting delicacies. Why is all of this significant to this writing? The Berrock Shop caused the most vivid flashback of my life! Their bierocks, save for the size and price, were so close to Simpson’s bierocks, I was stunned! I’ve tried several bierocks from numerous bakeries, festivals and fairs, but they never really compared to those of my youth. The Berrock Shop filled this void in splendid fashion. Their other fares, salads and deserts are of equal quality, which explains the standing room only situation at lunchtime.

The only differences between my homemade bierocks and those from the Berrock Shop are size (I make mine like Simpson’s) and a key ingredient missing from the Berrock Shop filling. My family recipe is safely stored in a Mason jar, buried beneath a concrete slab behind the house at 9 N. Lincoln Street, Russell, KS. The backup copy is stored within the rapidly deteriorating grey matter contained within the gourd resting upon my shoulders.

Visit the Berrock shop, order the Ground Beef Berrock and be taken back to Simpson’s Bakery, circa 1962. You’ll Love It!

The Beerock Shop written by Kokuaa

Has positively the best beerocks ever made by a dinning establishment. They come very close to the ones my Grandparents made when I was a child. (Decent size also - not teeny like the Fresno Fair and 100 times better!)

Order at counter for take out or dining in. While the ground beef beerocks are their specialty, they also offer shredded beef beerocks, homeade chicken pot pies, hamburgers, hot dogs (on homemade buns), and several different types of sandwiches. Can order all items ala carte or in a combo with a side salad (potato, macaroni, pasta, broccoli, green, waldorf, etc.) and a drink.

If you are looking for an old fashioned, drippy, messy burger with a hand-formed patty, I highly suggest the cheeseburger. Hadn't had one this good since my childhood!

They also offer mini appetizer sized beerocks that are great for parties and holidays. Buy the large beerocks cold to take home. Get a discount when buying a dozen or half-dozen!

Prixes are reasonable. Hot beerocks are about $3.50, cheeseburger combo is $7.95 other items vary but comparible.

Open everyday except Sunday for lunch/dinner. Not sure of exact hours but if you are in a hurry at lunchtime, get there early as they can get quite busy. Even better, call your order in and have it ready when you arrive or to take out.

At times counter and order taking is slow but for the volume of meals they serve, they do their best.
Ambiance is nothing special - tables and chairs or booths -Decor is "family homestyle".
Everyone from nearby office and doctor's office employees to nearby business employees to groups of elderly men and woman stopping in to dine or take out.

Employees and owners are always friendly and more than willing to customize your orders!

All in all a great dining experience.

The Only Place for Beerocks written by anonymous

My mom took my husband and I here years ago. My husband swears he will not eat cabbage. Well you know what happened. He loves beerocks! He ate half of mine and then we got some to take home (Las Vegas). Having grown up in Fresno and eaten beerocks all my life I love them! The only down side is we live so far away that I have to make them myself, or find someone who is coming to visit to get them for us so we have a supply. The Beerock Shop is wonderful! I love the variety and everything is so fresh and tasts wonderful. Enjoy!!
