Awful Experiance! written by ibook
Last visited this restaurant on July 29, 2006

I was promised the best experience and was given a complete nightmare.
I could not have made a worser choice had I tried when looking for a
unique locale to throw a private party.

Late July 06, I rented the entire restaurant for 40$ per person per
dinner for a private party.

I had been recommended to try Astoria and was given rave reviews and
after speaking with SASHA, THE OWNER, i was put at ease that
everything would be perfect. I was very mislead.

AIR- CONDITIONING: The air-conditioning was clearly NOT WORKING the
entire night but we were lied to constantly and told that it was
operating (the vent was not pushing out any air out, cold or hot). The
entire party was very hot and all of the guests were uncomfortable.

MUSIC: I was told by both friends and the owner that the music at
Astoria would be great. The live band was awful. It consisted of 2
people singing barely above a whisper while one read from a music
book.. The fuse actually gave out 4 times throughout the night leaving
us without music. We were promised the best musical experience and
given no viable entertainment to speak of.

FOOD: We were given stale, tasteless and cold food through out the
night and the actual meat was served at midnight and it was COLD! The
cold cuts were tasteless, the fish smelled badly.

SERVICE: We had 2 waitresses who left pitchers of already warm sodas
and waters on tables. They were rarely available. I was was forced to
tip an extra 500 for the service not provided. Read below.

At the end of the evening, we were given a bill close to 4,000$ and
when I began mentioning some of the problems through out the evening,
the owner SASHA gave a key to the waitress and asked her to LOCK THE
DOORS OF THE RESTAURANT, intern LOCKING US IN THE RESTAURANT WITH NO
WAY OUT and said that we must pay the bill or we CANT LEAVE even
though we had said NOTHING about lower the price of the bill or not
paying the bill. Then a man sitting next to SASHA, THE OWNER,
identified himself as partner in Astoria. When he was asked for a
card, he declined saying that it was none of our business what his
role there was.

We were treated awfully. the restaurant was a SHAM.

I believe that Astoria is owned by very shady people and conducts
extremely shady business. Locking people in without a way out is
illegal. I wish i had the forethought to call the police.

Nonetheless, don't go here. It is, by far, the worst restaurant
experience i have ever had. All this coming from a person who has
eaten very well on 5 continents, and in countless restaurants.

I hope you take this review into account the next time you attempt to
do business with the Russian Mob. I know i would have loved a review
such as this one when choosing a locale for my disastrous party.
