Basis New American Restaurant

My husband and I try to dine at Basis often even though it is over a 30 minute drive (easily located) yet well worth the drive time. Basis has a fabulous menu which has it all - red meat, duck, pork, chicken, pasta, fish and other specials, so there is something for everyone. We have never had a bad meal there and the service is absolutely fabulous. Additionally they have a great wine list both by the glass and bottle.

On our most recent visit in early February we had a killer appetizer. A lobster tamale with mango salsa, followed by wonderfully fresh salads. I had the perch special with lobster stuffed shrimp and cheese orzo. My husband had the beef tenderloin with mash potatoes. Both were excellent meals yet the best part was the dessert - a moist vanilla pound cake with fresh berries and freshly whipped crème. It was absolutely one of the best desserts I have had in a long while. And of course our service was great. We plan on going back this weekend- we are taking family and friends who have never been there before but I know they will find at least one thing on the menu which will meet their culinary expectations.

An additional story I would like to share is when we had a reservation with them for a casual reservation in June of 2005 and there was some sort of neighborhood gas issue. They called us, apologies for the inconvenience and had us reschedule our reservation. They gave us the entire dinner, wine and desert all absolutely for free. We begged to at least pay for half the dinner but the manager would not let us, they only insisted that we come back.

Basis is an incredible restaurant with a great menu, great service and a comfortable yet sophisticated atmosphere. The chef is a genius of using absolutely the freshest and highest quality ingredients to create a unique and flavorful dinning experience.
