The sushi was good, fresh and at a good price but I really liked Akagi for overall sushi. Plus the home own atmosphere met our needs more than the college trendy scene.
Omi has the best sushi i have ever had. I go there every chance i get. The food is amazingly fresh and there are so many options. The service is perfect, and i love the atmosphere. No other sushi place compares! Best place to eat at Michigan State! Love it
I really DO NOT understand why everyone is SO in love with Omi. The sushi is whatever, nothing fantastic but not terrible. The sushi in Lansing is pretty mediocre (understandable I suppose considering it's location) but the set-up at Omi reminds me of a cafeteria!
My favorite part of eating sushi (besides, of course the sushi) is sitting at the sushi bar and interacting with the chefs. Omi's chefs are not interested in interacting with their customers and you can't even order from the chefs!!
I honestly feel like I'm in a dorm furnished cafeteria and avoid this place at all costs! Not a nice ambiance, no interaction with the chefs, really not a fun sushi experience at all.
If you are looking for atmosphere, go to Sansu, but if you are looking for great sushi, OMI is by far, the best sushi restaurant in East Lansing. I agree, We are lucky to have it right next to campus. The food is delicious and the service is great. I felt that the tables were packed a little to close together. But that is my only complaint.
I've tried my fair share of sushi restaurants throughout Michigan, and Omi continues to be the one to beat. They offer the best sushi I have ever had--especially their spicy rolls. All of their other food is fantastic as well, especially the yakiniku rice bowls! Also, not only is it the best sushi, but they have the cheapest prices I've found. The atmosphere is laid-back and very ambient, and the service is (usually) wonderful, everyone is really polite. If you're in East Lansing, definitely make the trip!
Omi is always my first pick for sushi. The restaurant is sleekly styled, and you can sit at a table or at the small sushi bar. The fish has always been fresh and delicious - I am a big fan of the sushi combo, which comes with miso soup and a ginger-dressing salad. Omi has the best California Roll I've ever had, to the point where I'll often stop in just to have that. They have a great selection of Bento boxes, though I've always been so pleased with the sushi that I rarely stray from it. The biggest problem is parking, but there's an underground lot located under the Marriott hotel a block away.
i can't get enough of this place! it's consistently good and the service is prompt. everything i like in my dining experience. i like the decor and the menu, also, has a couple of korean dishes.
always a good choice to take friends and/or just to stop in for a quick bite.
Although my heart belongs to Sushi-Ya a few blocks west of Omi, I have to compliment Omi on their outstanding creativity when it comes to sushi, they really break the mold. The style of the food presented matches perfectly with the cool-modern atmosphere of the whole restaurant. Too expensive to be a weekly hangout, but considering the dishes, there's never a feeling of whether it was worth it. Great place for a first date if they're the type of person who:
1) can't live without their iPod
2) appreciates modern art
3) refers to themselves as a "foodie"
I've only eaten better sushi once and it was on Miami Beach in a posh hotel, so it's understandable. Omi is ridiculously good for East Lansing. Too good. But don't tell them. If you like fish, but don't like sushi, thats because you never had good stuff. Omi is entirely good stuff. The various fried rolls are the best. This place is pricy, don't get me wrong, but you most definitely get what you pay for.
Downside is they consistently forget appetizers and there seems to be a perpetual understaffing as for the waitstaff. The wait can also be prohibitively long for such a small dining room. Just go during non peak times.
Food is great, and the waitstaff is cordial.
Omi was my first experience with sushi, and everything since has been a dissapointment! Their menu offers a wide variety of new things to try, and presentation is amasing. They also have good teriyaki chicken for my 'chicken' boyfriend and mother that I've brought to Omi. I don't know really how to explain what makes some sushi better than other sushi. It is all very subtle, but I enjoy Omi even more than the more formal (and expensive) San Su (which is still excellent, nonetheless.)
OMI is the best sushi restaurant I have ever been to. We're lucky to have it right next to campus. The food is delicious, service is great and the atmosphere is really sleek. It's extremely clean and would make a great place to take a date, friends or the family.
Highly recommended, especially for first-time sushi diners.
The best sushi in lansing and reasonably priced. It is amazing. Everything on the menu is great and if you like eel you need to get the Omi Maki roll. Yum.
This is probably the best looking, quirkiest, coolest sushi bar I've been to in Michigan. Unfortunately, the sushi itself is only mediocre. Not bad, of course, just... average. If one could combine Omi's atmosphere with SanSu's sushi, I'd move in across the street. :)
This has to be the best sushi I've had in the states, and everything else we've had has been great as well!
Stopped in at Omi to put in an order for carry-out. It took about 15 minutes but when I got home and tasted it, it made the wait worth it. It tasted great and they even worried about presentation.
