A Night at Guido's written by Poisenwood

My boyfriend and I dined at Guido's while we were dowtown for the annual Mardi Gras festivities. The restaurant itself had lots of lovely character with a three seperate dining areas; casual with a bar, formal, and a quant court yard. We ate in the casual area by the copper top bar. It was busy and bustling, however not too loud. We were propmptly given drinks, and some of the best bread I have ever eaten. We were informed that the restaurant had two different menus, so we would have to choose one or the other. I was curious about this rule, and my waitress informed me that it was due to the fact that there were two kitchens in the back, one cooking Guido's, and the other Vinny's. We chose Guidos. We thought it was nice that they changed the menu daily to ensure that it accomadated the seasonal changes in fresh food availability. We started out with a glass of Black Opal Shiraz and some of the crab and corn bisque. The bisque was awesome, but quite rich. For our entrees we had the paneed grouper and a grilled filet with gorganzola cream topped with a softshell crab. The food came in huge quantities, it was presented beautifully, and tasted fabulous. We ended our meal with a shared bread pudding, which was made fresh to order. It was by far my favorite part of the meal. The entire experience was quite pleasurable, the staff helpful, anf the food magnificent. We left entirely satisfied, to go boxes in hand, and with the desire to become regular customers.

Have been here both with my wife for dinner and for business lunches with clients. Never been disappointed. Love Vinnie's spinich salad. They have been accomodating as far as substitutions go (i.e. green beans for potatoes, etc). The only awkward thing is trying to read the Guido's menu from a chalkboard. The 'font' is tough to read, and the board is mounted behind a table. That table, a six top, always seems to be occupied, and you wind up standing at someones shoulder to read it comfortably.

Wonderful, locally-owned place! written by geauxgurly

This is one of my favorite places to go. Their roasted artichoke hearts are the best! My mouth waters when I think about that appetizer. Their wine selection is magnificent. I also love the fact that their menu is ever-revolving, maintaining the freshest ingredients. Two thumbs up! Higly recommended!

Avoid Guido's written by Shimoney

Went there because every other restaurant in Mobile was booked and Guido's was relatively empty. The waitress didn't know what was on the menu because she couldn’t “keep up with it because it changed.” She also said that I couldn't put any of their mayonnaise crap sauce on the side because they don't do special orders. The sauce was supposed to be an artichoke spinach sauce with crabmeat. Not a shred of crab or artichoke came on my plate – only tartar sauce with specks of spinach. Even though there are 2 restaurants under one roof, everyone at the table has to order from Vinny's, the sandwich shop, or Guido's - even though everything is cooked in the same place. Ordered paneed grouper, but got very heavily fried flounder and old flounder at that. Am not a "foodie" and don't expect great things, but Guido’s did take the cake for crappiest overall restaurant experience of 2005.
