Saw these reviews and we decided to come downtown and try out a restaurant we had not tried before. It was across from the main post office and very neat and clean. The people could not have been nicer. It was packed, but we enjoyed standing in line and talking to the people. Friendly and the food was outstanding. We were sitted at a booth and we never ran out of tea or coffee and we had enough food left over to eat again that night at home! Prices were fantastic in this day and age. We will go back..probably this week-end!
I was born and raised in Birmingham. I moved to Georgia in 1995. I discovered Fifes in 2000. Let me say the experience was one that I nor my palate will ever forget. This is the epitomy of fine SOUTHERN COOKING! The food is indescribable, the service is that of a 5 star restaurant yet a lot more friendlier. Its the place in Birmingham if you want to eat good, get full, enjoy your surroundings, meet others who are pleasant to you, then by ALL MEANS... GO TO FIFES! I promise you will go back again, and again, and again. I live out of state, but every visit, FIFES here I come.Keep up the good work. I brag on this restaurant every chance I get.
I tried Fife's for the VERY first time the other day and - it WAS as good as everyone said! It really is like the old time restaurants of 20 years ago, but the food was good and the people were nice and not obtrusive. I enjoyed reading my paper while the bustle of the crowd just did that..bustled around without bothering me or anyone else. The waitress was friendly and my tea glass stayed full..by the way..they SHOULD bottle that stuff! The best tea I have had in years!. I will return and this time...I will bring the rest of the family to enjoy this food and just relax and talk.
Fifs'e proved to be delicious and we will go back for more. It is not a showey place with glitter. It was clean and comfortable and worth seeing. Everyone was nice and the waitress kept our drinks filled. WAY TOO much food!!! We took a lot of it home and ate it later. We will return...APPLE COBBLER is just like home and granny....I want more!
Ate with my business associates here. Yes, it s crowded and loud, but the food is great and the service is perfect. They are friendly and allow you to get a booth and discuss business without someone trying to listen in. We eat at other places with clients but they love this place. We saw "The Blind Boys From Alabama" there one day!!! My friend saw Ruben Studdard when she was there! You never know who you will see down there! We love it. Birmingham should advertise this place as a "must see" and "must eat". It is good at catering also!
We eat at Fife's several times a week. It is not fancy by any means, but you feel o comfortable and at ease that you find yourself knowing everyone that works there! I know all the waitresses and the owner, John, by name. Friendly, but no one stops and bothers you except to ask if you need anything. Would be a perfect place for a tv show..the people are great! Chicken, banana pudding and rice...TOOOOOOOoooo good!
very tasty. good service. fast. will return! nice people. no one bothers you while you eat. friendly atmosphere. love the breakfast and the lunch time. food is very filling and they give you lots!! i take home a box for my husband and another box for me for supper each night i can get down there. if we can get down there on saturday mornings, we eat the breakfast. get there by 7:00 a.m. or the crowds will spill out into the street. in that case..get the take out!! it will take a while but you can eat at home rather than wait for a table. we have just sat in the car outside in the parking lot and eaten our breakfast and talked. go..you will return..over and over.
BANANA PUDDING..JUST LIKE YOUR GRANDMA MADE IT! FRESH VEGGIES, FRIED CHICKEN WITH MASHED POTATOES AND GRAVY...IT IS NOT A DREAM...IT IS FIFE'S!! I PROMISE YOU THAT THIS IS THE BEST FOOD AROUND FOR THE MONEY. I CAN EAT THERE AND BE FULL ALL DAY. THE SWEET TEA IS OUT OF THIS WORLD. HE SHOULD BOTTLE IT AND SELL IT. IT REALLY IS UNDER $7.00 AND I THINK THAT COVERS THE DRINK ALSO! THE PORTIONS ARE REALLY TOO BIG FOR ONE SITTING.

My neighbor told me about this restaurant and I decided to brave the traffic into downtown Brimingham to give it a try. I went 280 and got off at the 2nd Av. North exit and it was right there at 2321 Fourth Av North..across from the P.O! It was fantastic!!! I loved the fried green tomatoes, BIGGGGG piece of fried chicken (my daughter had the baked chicken..yum!) and the sweet tea was delicious! I had no trouble finding this place OR leaving it for home. We now eat there at least once or twice a week. So MUCH FOOD!!!! Much cheaper than buying the groceries to cook and probably cheaper than some of the fast food combos! (For $7.00 + or -, you get a LOT of food!) We found that the best time to go was around 11:00 A.M. (BEFORE the lunch crowd, or after 1:30) The breakfast is fantastic...I think they serve this until around 10:30..it is old time eating. Grits, bacon, eggs, pancakes, ham, sausage..the whole deal. Toooo good. We love it.

The food is amazing!! Every bit of Southern cooking you could want! The staff is great. The owner John Kostakis is a wonderful business man! The resturant runs smoothly and the service is quick. It is a great take out as well as dine in place to eat. I go at least once a week. The sweet tea is just right on a hot southern day. The fried chicken and mac n cheese can't be beat. The prices are very reasonable considering the amount of food you get. You get so much food that you have enough left overs for dinner that night or to take for lunch the next day. The banana pudding is the best in town. We often get John to cater our holiday dinners. The dressing is the best. It has that down home flavor we are used to. If you get the chance try Fife's you won't be disappointed! Once you taste it once you will most certainly be back. Tell John how much you love it! Enjoy!!!

Fife's has great southern cooking! They have southern clasics like fried chicken, fried green tomatoes, macaroni and cheese, baked ckicken, fried fish, and hands down the best banana pudding in town! Also, don't miss their great breakfast. The owner John Kostakis, does a great job of running this place and it shows in the food. Give Fife's a try.. it won't be your last.
