A HIDDEN GEM OF A RESTAURANT! written by

Last visited this restaurant on October 24, 2006
We discovered this hidden gem after a glowing review by food editor of the Birmingham News, Jo O'Hara in early August and we've been there three times since then. This quaint restaurant, bakery, and deli out in the countryside between Oneonta and Springville is easy to missn, but you'll know exactly how to get there again after you've just once tasted this outstanding menu of wonderful food, homemade right down to the salad dressings! The atmosphere is warm and very relaxed in a country-decorated dining room adjacent to the kitchen and store. Food is served buffateria style and guests are welcome to serve and replenish everything from breads to desserts themselves if they wish. The fried chicken (owners say it's marinated to make it juicy and tender) is the best I've ever eaten, all vegetables are fresh and cooked to southern tastes, homemade desserts are extraordinary and there are many of your favorites and some which easily will become your favorites. Many recipes are handed down through the sisters' families and have been made for generations. We found the Yapperstown Cole Slaw and Shaker Lemon Pie, both we had never before tasted, out of this world! I almost wish I could find one thing to honestly criticize about this dining experience, but I cannot! And you will love Joice, one of the owners, an engaging, industrious woman with such a welcoming way and wonderful talk about her food, family and experiences. Try this wonderful restaurant & you'll return over and over just as we've done and will do.
