Did you ever pass up a good restaurant even though it was right in your own neighborhood? We did that for the first 6 months, then visited Italian Ovens on Route 45 and Deerpath (called Center St in Grayslake.) This little jewel has a charm of it's own by maintaining an Italian atmosphere out here in the middle of the cookie cutter subdivisions. What a treat to walk into this cozy little cafe and hear Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Lous Prima etc playing overhead. A counter person greets you and takes your order from a menu with a simple variety of Italian favorites. Pizza by the slice, mostaccioli, salads and sandwiches. Fresh green and variety salads pre-made with a great choice of bottled drinks as well as a fountain dispenser offering free refills. Sit down and relax for a few minutes and browse the Italian photos and drawings as your food is carefully and quickly prepared. Close captioned cable is available if the music doesn't interest you. Great prices and healthy servings of everything! Abbondanza! Finally, an Italian restaurant that doesn't insult the few Italians in town by serving Ragu'....
