My girlfriend and I used to be usual customers for Korea House. The food is good, so no complaints there. However, one day we went in and the service was absolutely terrible. We ordered the BBQ and the only time the waitress even came by was to hand us the food. It would be excusable if they were swamped, but there was hardly any other customers.
That's not the worse part. When we walked out, we gave them a tip. Now, this tip wasn't the 15% from our bill of 33 - we just gave them a four dollar tip. This lady stops my girlfriend and tells her that the tip MUST be 15% so my gf changes it to $5. Later when my girlfriend checks her bank statement, Korea House charged her a total of 39.50. 33+5 does not equal 39.50.
It's a bad practice to tell customers how much they should tip, and add even worse to charge the customers more for bad service. We will never go back again.
I eat there about once a week. Not only is their bibimbab excellent, but they serve sushi as well. My fiance LOVES their bulgogi. Their sushi menu may not be as elaborate as others in the area, but as a kimchi adict, it's great to get sushi and kimchi in the same place. The staff is always friendly and it's the type of place that you can go in a large group, a date, or alone with a book for lunch. Take out is also always wonderful! If you're new to Korean food, go with the bulgogi (lots of meat) or the bibimbab (lots of veggies, rice. You can order it vegetarian as well.),
After visiting korea house many times, decided to write a little review. I always go there for lunch, and their lunch special prices are excellent ($5 and up). Their spicy chicken, bulgogi, kalbee and bibimbap are excellent and inexpensive and there is always plenty of food. I would highly recommend this place for casual lunches.
Korea House is, by far, the best Korean restaurant in the Greater Lansing Area. I can never stop returning for more extravagant, authentic Korean food! It is nearly flawless, and ranks in the top 3 list of my favorite restaurants in town.
The dish I usually order is the Kalbi (marinated Korean short ribs), but their Hot-Stone bowl Bibimbop is excellent as well. The hwaedupbap (bibimbap w/ slices of raw fish) is especially tasty, though it requires at least 2 full glasses of ice-cold water to follow it in order to keep your tongue from flaming up!
The atmosphere of the restaurant was terrific. I myself am Korean, and whenever I walk into Korea House, it reminds me of home. I would think it is safe to say that I will return very soon for more authentic Korean food.
can't get more authentic than this! if you want real korean food this is the only place in the lansing area worth going to. charlie kang's is way overrated.
