Great BBQ in Rockford written by

One of the few true BBQ places in Rockford IL, The Smoke House ia an authentic BBQ, owned and operated by BBQ lovers, in the Southern style. I had the Shoulder sandwich, my standard BBQ sandwich. Well smoked, good sauce (not great, but good, a commerical product, not home-made), good fries. Basically not for a fancy date, the plain room attached to a Shell Oil Station is not elaborate, but the rent is reasonable, and their costs are evidently reasonable. Prices were not cheap, but not as high as many. I try to get there every month or so, and enjoy the down-home food. The smoker is out back.
