Great Chicken written by

Ripp's has undoubtedly the best fried chicken around. Not only do I love their food, but I love the experience as well. I actually look forward to the long lines and being able to socialize and have a cheap beer or two. Definitely one of Illinois' hidden treasures. If you love fried chicken and a warm and friendly atmosphere, this is a place you can't miss!

World's Best Fried Chicken written by

I grew up eating Rip's and now, after having eaten at myriad five star restaurants throughout the U.S. and around the world, Rip's remains one of my favorite places to eat. This is unquestionably the world's best fried chicken - golden brown, deep fried batter with the perfect amount of crunch and flavor together with incredibly moist and plump chicken with just a touch of salt. In my book, this perfect combination places Rip's fried chicken on par with Il Mulino's rack of lamb and Chez Panisse's pork loin. The Rip's experience is almost of equal importance as the food - being greeted by the owner and served by the same waitress who brought out your chicken in 1986, the paper plates and no silverware policy and fabulous free "crunchies." Although the line is often quite long, the beer is cheap and cold and running into old friends while waiting for your table is part of the fun of any Rip's visit. My husband and I brought 15 New Yorkers for dinner at Rip's, and they are still gushing over the amazing fried chicken and terrific time they had at Rip's. We were thrilled as well since the total bill came to only slightly over $100 despite what would have been an enormous bar bill at any other restaurant. All in all, Rip's is an unforgettable restaurant that you cannot miss.

This resturaunt has been run by the same family since 1932. I personally have been going there for over 40 years. All through that time the chicken has never varied. It is delicious! The lines can be long on the weekends. But that should tell the story. Crowds stand outside in zero degree weather to wait for this taste treat. Once you are inside you will find the service to be friendly. I also believe that you will be pleasantly surprised by the value for the money.
