I go to Aunt Bea's to satisfy my longings for Mississippi style food. My choice is usually vegetable plate, which comes with four selections. Mine are fried okra, candied sweet potatoes, mixed greens, and peas plus water cornbread. (The selection of peas varies - black eyed, crowder, field, but not English/green.) The amount of food is more than I want or need, but I clean my plate and waddle out.
I have gotten fried catfish as a carry-out on Fridays. This is quite tasty as well.
Servers are pleasant and friendly. On one or two occasions my beverage glass was not filled as promptly as I would have liked, but the rest of the dining experience overshadows this.
The decor of this neighborhood cafe is plain and very clean. Although I am not from the neighborhood, I am remembered and feel welcome.
"Not fast food but good food," is the message on a sign on a wall. I go to Aunt Bea's when I have no other commitments for at least an hour and a half. The wait is worth my while and does not seem long. (This is much quicker than traveling 850 miles to my mother's childhood home in order to eat such food in such an atmosphere.)
Aunt Bea's is a place I enjoy dining alone with a book for company as well as with friends/colleagues.
Her prices are reasonable.
I eat at Aunt Bea's several times a year and always look forward to returning because I enjoy the food and the welcoming atmosphere.
The date of my last visit is a guess. It was too long ago anyway. I have a craving for a vegetable plate right now.
