Restaurant Reviews of Nikko Japanese Restaurant

All of the reviews on the Internet I have run into show a fabulous list of maki and unique roll names. I am here to report that none of this is true as the restaurant has recently been revamped and changed significantly. Everything from the interior decorations, dishes, presentation of rolls and sushi all the way to the choices on the menu. For instance, there is a noticable lack of edamame and none of the signature rolls like the yummy yummy rolls or viagra rolls. They do have most of the standard Japanese Sushi options (afterall this IS a Korean Sushi restaurant) but have some slight differences.

The ambiance was very pleasing and I like the color scheme now over their previous bland white. The wait staff were extrememly pleasant and courteous and one of the sushi chef's felt bad when he accidentally made us wait for a few extra minutes that he brought over a complimentary unagi roll.

The food itself was the highlight of the evening. I haven't had sushi this good in a very very long time. We started with the Red Dragon Maki roll which was a nice change of pace from the standard Dragon Roll and was met with probably the best variant of the dragon I have been exposed to. Next up was the Chicago Roll which had a fantastic ride of flavors that ended with a mellow hint of toasted sesame seeds. This led us to try a traditional rainbow roll that was light and refreshing with subtle flavors that excited the palate. Lastly we tried a spicy tuna roll that was topped with a spicy mayonnaise that stole the show. Not the best spicy tuna I have had but easily the 2nd or third. A couple of pieces of Sea bass and white tuna sushi rounded out the meal. Complimentary miso soup was a nice touch.

Overall I give Nikko the highest rating for the quality of fish and freshness with an enthusiastic two thumbs up for the service. The ambiance I couldn't rate as high because while nicer than before, still doesn't warrant reverence.
