Restaurant Reviews of Majority

This is the email I just sent to 22 persons locally:
Have you ever been to "Majority" for dinner? I went tonight for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is beautifully outfitted and the Holiday decorations were understated and elegant. The food and service were very good and the view of the Capitol and the Christmas lights were nice. They are closing in early January and moving to another downtown location. If you haven't been there I'd recommend going some evening in the next week or so.

Party of 5, each ordered something different. Four dishes had "issues": halibut was over done; "tenderloin" ordered was supposed to have been beef and it was pork (waiter never clarified - he assumed); Sirloin was over done (asked for slightly pink - got no pink); NY Strip was over done (asked for med. rare - got a little pink); ordered polenta - got potatoes; ordered asparagus - got spinach. Only positive meal was salmon. Bills were inter-mixed and had to be re-done twice. Not an overall pleasant experience, and probably won't be back.

Great atmosphere, great service, and I'm very pleased not to have to head out to suburbia to get a halfway decent meal. But at least a few of the lunch items need an overhaul. The fish tacos were crying out for fresh cilantro. And what's with the grocery-store flour tortillas? For a second I thought I was in Taco Bell--it's an $8 dish with $2 flavor. The black bean soup was twice as boring. It tasted like health food, like they forgot to add the seasonings. Judging from the glowing reviews here, Majority delivers a fine dinner. Are they cutting corners on the lunch? Either way, I won't be back anytime soon.

Majority was a phenomenal experience filled with excellent service, wonderful menu options and I loved the Pasta Portfolio. The restaurant screams urban and the view of the Capitol is incredible. The desserts were by far my favorite part and I would definitely go back just for dessert. The wine was kind of expensive, but it comes with the territory.

We recently had dinner at Majority, and really enjoyed the entire experience. The atmosphere is wonderful--we came in the back door, and were pleasantly surprised by the decor and the wonderful view of the capitol building across the street.
We enjoyed an ENORMOUS 4 course meal and enjoyed each one. Our favorite course was dessert--I ordered vanilla creme brulee, which was good. My husband ordered a chocolate/banana confection that was to die for! The base was a Linzer (hazelnut) torte, topped with chocolate ganache. Over that, a thick layer of banana/chocolate mousee made up the bulk of the dessert, with a carmelized sugar topping (and some carmelized bananas on the side). It was tremendous!
We plan to return to Majority on our next special occasion--the food and service were excellent! It's nice to finally have a decent restaurant in Lansing.

I can't say it enough...Majority is awesome! We went to Majority with another couple. They have a fantastic menu. It is completely different than anything else in Lansing. The ambience reminded me of Chicago or New York. Our server was extremely knowledgable about the food and wine. She helped us pick out a bottle of wine that went well with all of our dinners. She also was very helpful by giving suggestions of items on the menu. I had the ahi tuna and it was delicious. We also tried the empanadas for an appetizer. Everything was fantastic!!

I live in Ann Arbor and I have owned a restaurant there.
I am very happy that I don't have to say that Lansing, which
is my home town, doesn't have any great upscale places to
dine. The Majority delivers on decor, drinks, appetizers, main courses and fabulous desserts. I was with eighteen people and none of us were dissappointed. Thanks Majority staff for a great night out.

I can't speak for Majority's dinner menu, but the luncheon menu was quite limited and the food wasn't all that great. The mushroom soup was definitely the best, and the desserts were great. The salads that some of my coworkers ordered were not good at all, and everything was overpriced for a lunch. The environment was great and the service was exceptional, but the "food experience" turned me off to thinking about trying it out for dinner. Who knows, maybe I'll get brave in the future.

This is the coolest restaurant in Lansing - such cool decor! And the food (I had the duck) was phenomenal!! I normally don't like duck, but theirs was out of this world! The waitress was friendly and fun and didn't make it feel intimidating (sometimes upscale places can do that)Can't wait to go back!!

The drinks were fantastic, and the service was wonderful. Appetizers were great, however the entrees were slightly lacking for such an upscale venue--and moderately overpriced. Majority is a refreshing burst of energy and ambiance for Lansing--hip, posh, and fun for a night out with the girls or a date!

Lansing area could use more places like this!! Our food, including appetizers, entrees, and dessert, were fabulous. We went on Sweetest Day, and our server did a great job of making us feel comfortable in such a 'posh' environment. I actually have seen the man who served us ourside of the restaurant since then, and he recognized us and remembered names! Everything about this restaurant was amazing, from beginning to end.
