Sultan Express is currently the only surviving middle-eastern restaurant in downtown Lansing. Which is not so bad, because what they do, they do fairly well. Tasty, fresh meals are available for a reasonable price, and although they get quite busy during the lunch hours, they deliver the goods with a smile.
Food: Generally excellent, my only markdowns are for falafel that is occasionally a little cool, and they could be a little more generous with the hummus on veggie plates. But these are minor complaints compared to what you get, which is wholesome, freshly prepared food. The garlic sauce is a great condiment!
Service: I am being hard to dock them here but being honest I will say at peak hours they seem to get a little disorganized. I understand it's busy as heck though, and given the space they have, I don't know how much more they could do.
Ambience: Very cozy and hard if not impossible to seat a party of more than four. Be prepared to sit elbow-to-elbow with strangers, because that's the way it is here! It's nice though, and the communal seating enhances the experience.
I work downtown and this is by far my favorite lunch spot. The food is fantastic. I like the Chicken Shwarma the best but everything I have had there is good. I also like their hummus. I have to say that I like it better than Woody's Oasis, whicn is a Lansing area icon. I wish it was open later and on weekends but such is the fate of it beign located in downtown lansing! Hopefully this will change soon.
