The Snack Shack is located in the teeming metropolis (not) of Orick 45 miles north of Eureka. Set in the beautiful redwoods of northern California the Snack Shack stands out like a beacon with it's international orange exterior. (Just in case you might mistake it for a deer) Along the drive from Eureka it is common to view members of the largest herd of Rosevelt elk in the world that populate the scenic byways of this area.
My favorite food here is the Paul Bunion Burger. It is a huge 1/2# burger with cheese, bacon (no not Jason) and a big ortega chilli thrown on for good measure for about 8 bucks with fries and drink. Be sure to try the garlic fries. Yummy!
This is the perfect waypoint from the eureka area for a motorcycle or hot rod run or even just a pleasent drive into the country. Be sure to call first. This is a small town and their hours are dictated by (insert a good reason for irregular hours here) As with anywhere in Humboldt County when speaking with the locals, aviod discussing anything personal. Steer clear of questions like "So... what do you suppose the biggest cash crop in the area might be?"
