Used to be SO much better written by jenmb718

I have been VERY disappointed in Spotted Dog recently. I don't know if they are under new ownership or if they have hired new employees, but their service has gone WAY downhill. I used to eat at Spotted Dog at least twice a week, but over the past year, I have had the following problems:
- every order I have placed in the past year, whether it be dine in, carry out or delivery, has in some way been incorrect;
- every time I have brought this to the staff's attention, I have been informed that it is not their fault....because supposedly I placed the order wrong (even though I have even tried WRITING IT DOWN on a slip of paper and just handing them that...they still got it wrong), or the OTHER employee did it, act of God, etc. etc. There is NO ONE there willing to take responsibility for a screw-up.
- the quality of their food, while not horrible, is not near what it used to be. Their thai chicken pasta salad used to be one of the best pasta salads I'd ever tasted. However, the past 2 times I ordered the salad it was delivered and the first time there was no chicken in it; and the second time there was NO DRESSING in it. Again, when I brought this to their attention with a phone call, the employee that answered just put it off to "well, since you ordered so early the employee who bagged up your order didn't realize I hadn't finished the salad..." No one offered to replace the salad or refund my money. I was basically told to deal with it.
And even though I have heard numerous co-workers and friends that work downtown make similar comments about Spotted Dog's quality over the past year, Spotted Dog's employees not only refuse to listen to any complaints, but apparently also think they should continue to raise their prices (which they never update on their website, so plan on paying a couple dollars more per item then what the online menu says).
All I can say is it's really TOO BAD, because they used to be an excellent place to eat, and I am not the only person to say I won't be eating there anymore because it's DEFINATELY not worth the money. Try Sara's or Great Harvest if you're actually looking for quality food and GOOD customer service.

Bad tasting fruit written by

June 18, 2008... their nectarines and blueberries were fresh but tasted like MSG/Salt that left a greasy feel in your mouth. Preservatives? gross and they charge you more for them.
The proportions have become skimpy in the last year and a half. Generally good food but several times the bread has been old or dray.

Great Veggie written by

Vegetarian options are mandatory for me. As I work downtown, Spotted Dog is convenient and offers a great veggie sandwich for a reasonable price. It's never made the same way twice (not necessarily a bad thing) and the ingredients are better than average. The service is usually acceptable, though the layout of the counter makes service inefficient. Get there well before noon if you are short on time.
I have yet to try other menu items, in part because there isn't exactly a menu, but I have been very happy with what I have had so far.

Good food, but..... written by joker48913

The food here is always very good. The salads are always good, but the portions are small for the price you pay. I would go there more if the portions were larger. I recommend this place, for the salads, if you aren't real hungry. The sandwich selection is limited but good.

Excellent for the price written by camaleona

The lunch deals at the Spotted Dog are hard to beat, considering the low prices. The quiche--especially the spinach quiche--is wonderful, the only drawback being that it's made with crust out of a freezer. The salads are excellent--the fact that they use actual greens instead of iceberg lettuce sets them apart from the majority of Lansing's crappy restaurants. I'm not overly fond of the sandwiches (don't like Great Harvest bread). The ingredients are not always top notch but are above average and are definitely worth the price.

Best Quick Lunch in Lansing written by anonymous

You can't beat the salads here; they create new ones constantly. The sandwiches are excellent as well. After grabbing lunch everywhere else, I can't seem to stay away from this place! The service here is fast which is a definite bonus.

Firehouse written by Sparty

Spotted dog has a firehouse theme. Hence the dalmation name of spotted dog. The theme also fits as this place is smokey! If you have a lung condition stay the heck away. The food and service are ok at best.
