Restaurant Reviews of Sparty's Coney Island Frandor
Chili Fries with Cheese - embalm me in them written by

When I die, I want my casket filled to the brim with their chili fires and cheese. This has to be the best meal - value for price, quality for genre, portion sizes, flavor for genre - that I can remember eating. I was in East Lansing over the holidays and forgot how great these were.

i miss the pennsylvania store :o( the food was mighty tasty. my favorite was the cheeseburger with chili cheese fries. yummy! it was a great place for socializing too. i made so many new friends there. the only downfall that restaurant had was a lousy hotheaded owner. long live the coney ninjas!

WOW!! Hearty Breakfast written by

My son, his wife, & myself ordered breakfast. I am neither a breakfast-eater, nor an egg-lover, however, the omelet I ordered was absolutely FANTASTIC, as were the Greek American fries (this from one who is not particularly fond of fried foods, especially potatoes.) We all ordered different foods & sampled each other's orders; we loved them all! The portions were HUGE!! We found the service to be stellar & loved the atmosphere; we don't smoke & didn't find any problems with it being smokey. We loved the food, portions, prices, service & friendly atmosphere. I would DEFINITELY go there again in a heartbeat & order the same omelet & fries!

I had heard A LOT of people say that this was the best breakfast in town, but I have to strongly disagree now that I've tried it. Although the food wasn't horrible, it definately wasn't anything to write home about either (the omelet I tried was REALLY overcooked; the person I was with complained that the giant pancake they tried was dry and flavorless). The service, however, WAS horrible. Our table with filthy and no one bothered to even wipe it off (we did it ourselves). And the whole "I'm taking my time and will get to you when I get to you" attitude of the waitstaff might be okay for the regulars with whom you have already established a rapport, but not for new customers. I had to ask my waitress 3 times just for a glass of water before she brought it. When we asked for a few minutes to look over the menu before ordering (after all, we'd never seen the menu before), she got all huffy and then basically disappeared. I finally had to track down another waitress and ask her to find ours. The same thing happened when it was time for the bill. I have heard great things about their coneys, but since the service was so bad, I don't think I'll be returning to find out.

If you want to eat a good coney dog this is the place to go. Crowded at mealtimes (sometimes a sign is put up to go to their other store) Sparty's is the quintessential coney place. Detroit and Flint coneys (I like the Detroit--soupier). The greek american fries are a great compliment to a coney, but you might want to split them (vinegary with pepper, onions and potato). Other staples are as expected; burgers, a very big chef's salad, standard breakfasts... I and many of Sparty's customers look like we eat there too much. It sure seems worth it when you've got a coney Jones on.
