I have dined at Seldom Blues on several occasions and have never left dissatisfied. I went to see Kirk Whalum and I now wish that I had gone to the dinner show. It was the best concert I have experienced (and I have gone to a lot in my lifetime). I am planning to go to Kim Water show Apr 27. I have never been dissappointed with the food or the service here. The resturant's atmosphere was beyond my expectations and I always look forward to returning. I have gone to the Sunday Brunch on numerous occasions and was very, very satisfied. I just hope the prices don't keep going up, otherwise they can expect me to continue coming.

My significant other and I went here with her family for one of her aunt's birthday. When I had it described to me as a "fine dining and jazz restaurant", I think it set up expectations that were higher than intended. The atmosphere was extremely different from what you would expect from a place touted as "fine dining". Everyone was loud, which led to a shouting contest among tables - it was more like a school cafeteria than a restaurant. The jazz situation was pleasant for the most part, but quickly degraded to match the atmosphere as the night wore on. We initially came in to a jazz pianist playing various jazzed up pieces of holiday music with some occasional improv in between. She was awesome and I especially enjoyed how comfortable she was at weaving in and out of actual songs and short improv pieces. Later a small trio came on: a keyboardist, a bass guitarist, and a drummer. They went through a couple of holiday-esque sets featuring some modern jazz with an occasional latin fusion flavor to it - then disaster struck. Midway through our meal, what can only be described as a very very bad Rat Pack knockoff hopped up on stage. After various issues with the microphone, he proceeded to butcher quite a few holiday songs (complete with humping movements in "Let It Snow"). It actually threw me out of whatever state of enjoyment I'd had up to that point, and my attention turned to finishing my meal and leaving. The food was a much better adventure. Servers were very courteous, and did a great job of describing meals (especially those that they personally recommended - it's one of the first times I didn't get the feeling that the recommendation was to get you to buy the most expensive meal). It took some time for our waitress to get back to take our order, but she was very obliging when doing so. Our appetizers arrived about 10 to 15 minutes after ordering. My Blues Green salad was very good, the vinaigrette was extremely good, though I did find the nuts more of a chore than a positive contribution to the overall taste. After a small dish of lemon sorbet to "cleanse the pallet", our dishes arrived. I must say it's the first time I've thoroughly enjoyed seafood since moving to Michigan the scallops were expertly prepared, and the lobster was to die for. My meal was one of the cheaper choices (Lobster and Scallops Fettuccine $28), but the taste did nothing to make me feel "cheap". My significant other chose from the mid-range dishes (Rotisserie Roasted Half-Duck $35). While good, she made the comment that there really wasn't anything that made it stand out. The gumbo she ordered as an appetizer was also fairly decent, though the small amount I had seemed to be mostly seafood with a minuscule amount of Andouille (though she confirmed the entire bowl was like that). We also ordered a crème brûlée to share. They also brought out a small piece of what I think was cake complete with a candle for the birthday girl (the presentation was perfect). The crème brûlée was adequate enough, though custard overpowered the vanilla bean. Overall, it was a fairly decent meal. I would probably only go back if an artist I really wanted to see was performing, though I guess it's good to know that an attempt at this type of restaurant has been made in this region.

We went to seldom blues with a group of people after a function downtown, I ordered the Lamb chops and the cheese plate the lamb chops were breaded probably to hide all the fat they were the worse lamb chops I have ever eaten. The cheese plate was dry our server took 45 min just to get the drinks to the table after ordering, then hardly to be seen again, a hostess actually started getting our drinks, I had ordered a bottle of Moet after 25 min of waiting they came back OH we are out so here is a different one without even asking if it were OK. I will never dine there again Detroit has too many excellent restaurants to waste your time there.

Mother's Day Celebration written by KarenW

My son-in-law celebrated his wife, myself (mother-in-law), his wife's grandmother and his aunt for mother's day. We went on a Saturday evening. The food, service, and atmosphere was absolutely wonderful. One of the owners went to each guest during the evening to make sure everyone was comfortable. Since that time, I have been for lunch during the week. We experienced the same great food and service. I would recommend to everyone.

If you ever visit Detroit you must dine at seldom's it great. The staff is wonderful and food I cant put into words.The seafood dishes are the best.Now I did not have any desert But my hbby Liked his alot and his very picking.The staff was very extra friendly too. It's a very beautiful resturant off the water downtown.

Visited from California on 8/26. Husband and I took 75yr old father for dinner. Service by an Anthony was not complimentary to the 'ambiance'nor price paid.

Blues Green salad came w/o nuts advertised. Had to request. Server was seldom seen for assistance or questions. Steak prepared for husband, requested med/well, had to be sent back 2x because over cooked.
