  Skip the Old Mohawk

  This place has been a long time fav for us... not gourmet, but good food and a comfy atmosphere... whoa! not on the last trip.
  
  Except for the beer (and after all, how could they mess that up?) everything else was terrible. The turtle soup (signature dish) should have been called turtle broth.... there was nothing of substance in it! We kinda expected turtle meat and vegatables.
  
  I ordered the Yankee Pot Roast ( the Wed. special) at a cost of about $10 to $12. ... when it came, I got a bowl with maybe 1 to 1 1/2 oz. of shredded beef, one very small potato and about 20 slices of carrots all in a watery red broth... it probably wouldn't have even made a good vegatable soup.
  
  Needless to say, I wasn't going to pay $12 for a bowl of bad soup at the Old Mohawk... I sent it back and instead, asked for the Mother Mohawk sandwich, (another signature dish, with both roast beef and chicken salad on rye). I have gotten this many many times and always enjoyed it. Well, not this time..The beef was overdone and dried out and the bread was soggy. I ate only half.
  
  My dining partners had similar underwhelming experiences with both the quesidellas and the spinach/artichoke dip.
  
  Oh yeah, and every dish that we asked our waiter about, he assured us was "excellent". As we were leaving, I wondered if I had asked about how the gum on the bottom of the bartender's shoe was ..... would he have again answered "excellent"?
  
  Well giving him the benefit of the doubt... it must have been hard to make reccommendations if either he was smart enough not to dine at The Old Mohawk and therefore wasn't familiar with the recent decline in food quality... or if he really wanted to say, "I suggest that for dinner tonight you get out of here and go to a Cameron Mitchell restaraunt".
  
  Skip this place ... From now on, we will!.
