On March 1st, we were invited to dinner at the Hickory Inn on N. Limestone St. in Springfield. Not only was the service horrible, the food was barely fit to eat, it was overpriced & the owner is extremely rude & disrespectful.
We arrived at 6:00 & was seated by 6:15 which is pretty good. That's where the good stops. It took forever for someone to take our order. Once we got our salads, we didn't have silverware & had to wait quite a long time to get it. Our drinks stayed empty the majority of time we were there. We had to ask for everything & the server would take forever each time we made a request.
Once we got the food, it was wrong & some of it was undercooked. By this time, I was sick of waiting & ate mine anyway. Out of the other 3 in our party, 1 didn't take a bite & the other two picked over theirs. The server only came to the table twice from 6:30 until 8:00 to check on us. But believe this, when she handed us the check, she came to the table 3 times within a 10 minute period asking us if we were ready to settle our bill.
We asked to speak to a manager & was told that the owner was there but he was busy. We politely said we would wait because we would like to talk to him about the service. We waited about 30 minutes. The two males in the group went outside for a cigarette & the two females stayed inside.
When he finally came to the table, he was rude & disrespectful. He caused a scene by yelling at my fiance & drew the attention of the entire restaurant to our table. I was not inside when this took place......unfortunately.
We really didn't know that this had happened until the girls walked out into the parking lot. The owner came out the back kitchen door cursing at them & saying some other unkind things. I immediately came to her defense & he started cursing at me & said he was calling the police. I urged him to do so & waited in the parking lot until they arrived. While we waited, several of the employees kept coming out of the kitchen making smart comments as to try to intimidate us.
He ended up discounting the bill to $30.00
The point is this. We weren't looking for a free meal. Our entire group is in their 40's with the exception of one. Our occupations consists of a manager with over 20 years in the service business, a general manager at a very popular franchise restaurant here in Springfield with over 20 years in the restaurant industry,a firefighter & a medical assistant. We know how to treat customers & we know how we expect to be treated. All we wanted was someone to validate our concerns, not discount our meal.
I was really looking forward to our dinner this evening & it was ruined. The owner of this establishment should stay in the kitchen & hire a manager with some customer service skills because he has none.
I will never step foot in this place again & I will pass it along to everyone that I know to do the same. I would suggest that you think twice before giving up your hard earned money in this restaurant.
