I'd heard praise about this place from the Lansing food news blog and decided to try it out. I was NOT disappointed. The location and exterior is very hole-in-the-wall, which made me optimistic. The interior is clean and well-lit, tastefully decorated. The dry stir-fried beef was well-seasoned and complex with garlic, szechuan peppercorn, and red pepper. Heat was there but not overpowering. Gongbo chicken was like Kung Pao chicken I'd had before, but more subtle with a citrus or ginger note. On the whole, both dishes were very much like Chinese food I'd get anywhere else, but more subtle, complex, and balanced with no one overpowering flavor; everything in harmony. The bill for two dinner entrees (which made two meals each) and a pot of tea (always kept full by an attentive waiter) was $21.
Like I said, can't wait to go back.
I recommend HongKong as one of the best chinese restaurants near MSU. I love this place, because this cozy and friendly atmosphere is a great place to have a meal with your friends and family. I love this restaurant caz the taste of cousine is quite similar to my home country's, Korea. Not too greasy, not too salty! Very Yummy!
I've been eating at Hong Kong restaurant since I was a student at MSU back in the late '70s. The food has always been good, the service is always friendly, and the take-out is always ready promptly and is hot, hot, hot! I highly recommend this as a great place to eat.
Small homey place.
I like the fish tanks.
The way too old, worn, dirty carpet has me worried.
I try not to think what the kitchen is like if what the public sees is this bad.

Went in and had a great meal with great service.
We were the only table.
The carpet was cleaned but it needs to be cleaned again or replaced.
