After reading the other reviews on this website, we decided to give this one a try. We waited at the counter for about five minutes before anyone came to greet us, not normally a problem, but the restaurant was empty. We tried to find a booth where the seats were not all ripped up or the tables sloppy. We sat down and waited for our sodas for a minute then headed to eat. After a 15 mile hike that day we were starving and excited for the "home cooked food", even though the buffet itself looked quite sparse. Well the food was not "home cooked", it was all preprocessed foodservice product. We both work in food service, and can tell the difference between what is bought in and scratch cooked. Now some bought in is understandable, but not the entire selection off offerings. And as for selection there is not one. Chicken, ham, and tough roast beef. Not what we expected for the price we paid. The wait staff was too busy flirting with a table full of male customers, chastising them for eating the center out of the bread pudding, to refill a much needed soda to wash the salt out of our mouths from the preprocessed food. We left very dismayed and will not make a return visit on our future excursions to Escanaba, nor should anyone who wants a decent meal. Trust me, it's that bad

great place to eat especially with families and friends. the waitress do a super job and thet are mostly high school girls with wonderful personalities.the food is always hot and full on the buffet me and my husband goes there twice a week and the prices for seniors are affordable.

we are senior citizens and we go to great northern buffet atleast twice a week. we love the food because theres such a variety and alot of it is homemade,it's the closets to home cooking in the area. The rolls are the best.The price is affordable. OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT IS GREAT NORTHERN SUPER BUFFET .

Fire the owner written by dougbrigit

Today I witnessed the owner of this restaurant yell at a waitress then grab her arm and push her towards the cash register. All because she was saying good bye to another employee and customers were coming though the door. As far as I could tell the cash register wasn't her job she was our waitress! Then he yelled some more and told her she was a lousy waitress. When another customer stepped in and told him that he needed to calm down he told them to sit down and mind their own business. All the while the waitress is crying and trying to continue her work. Then he started in on a waitress that just walked in for her shift. She wasn't even there and he was yelling at her for it! When I asked if there was an complaint box he told me he was the complaint dept. and if I didn't like it not to come back. What a novel idea! I discussed this with a friend and they told me this was a regular occerance. I don't recommend the Great northern buffet even to people I don't like.
