What a Hidden Treasure! written by hummingbee

I met a friend for lunch at Gaia last week and the food was once again amazing. I think many restaurants can get it right every now and then, but the restaurants that I choose to go to are the ones that are predictably wonderful. I have eaten at Gaia perhaps 20 times over the past 10 years and have had great food and service every time. Though my husband and I are meat eaters and the Gaia is a vegetarian restaurant, we always find plenty of interesting, delicious and very satisfying things on their menu to choose from. The veggie hash is scrumptious and has a nice "zing" with fresh ginger in the mix. Most recently I've been hung up on their eggs with rice, beans, cheese and homemade salsa. It's so So good! My husband generally favors steak when eating out, but loves good, fresh, creative, well-prepared food and considers this wonderful quirky place his favorite Grand Rapids restaurant because of how delicious the food is. Two thumbs up for Gaia. There is really no other restaurant around like it. We drive from the lakeshore (Saugatuck area) to go there and it is always worth the drive.

Ate there yesterday for lunch, first time ever.
Friend and I split the Quesadia appetizer (served with black re-fried beans, small green salad, sour cream and fresh salsa) and the Potato Hash with melted cheese and veggies. Both were big portions, plenty enough for two of us - we stuffed ourselves. Had tap water as our beverage - serve yourself - the local water tasted fine. Food was fresh, simple, well-made, tasty, and we really enjoyed it - would eat there again in a heart-beat.
Excellent service - servers checked on us regularly, but didn't intrude. Nice and friendly folks, cleared plates off the table in a timely fashion but didn't hurry us out.
The cafe was packed, but tables were available. Nothing upscale - definitely home-y, warm and welcoming. Mixed crowd - ages 20s - 60s. Very comfortable, lots of natural light from big windows.
I'd go back anytime.
