    excellent tavern food

    What a pleasant surprise, after visiting sleeping bear dunes by chance we stopped by the friendly tavern in empire michigan because we were starving. Expecting a "burger joint" our expectations were low. We ended up having the best meal of our trip. I had fresh chargrilled lake trout on a bed of fresh sping greens with poached pears dried cherries candied pecan and a golden raisin chadonnay vinegrette, my companion had a fresh in house ground bleu cheese burger. Both meals were served fast and the quality was excellent,the service was "casual" but fun as was the atmosphere. All in all we would rank the friendly an overall 9 on a scale of 10
