"Vegetarian" and "diner" are two terms that do not often intersect with many results, but The Fleetwood Diner proves that soul-satisfying, comfort-inducing bliss in the form of vegetarian fare /can/ be found at a diner.
My family has been visiting the Fleetwood off and on for a few years and, with very few exceptions, we have come away stuffed and nothing but happy.
First, the food... The Fleetwood is the only place in town you can get tempeh to order, and it's available on several menu items. These include hippie hash (a real winner in my book and a great bargain as well), the tempeh burger (stacked with all great burger fixins), a tempeh "ruben", and others. Order your potatoes--fries or hash browns--crispy and you will be one happy veg.
The service is almost always top-notch. "Almost?" Hey, everybody has an off day, don't they? Without making excuses, I've never had a bad server. Maybe a hungover one, but who cares? These folks run their arses off, and they do a great job.
The Fleetwood is a small place, and the atmosphere varies from peaceful to hectic, but in such a small place you get what you get. Burrow into your hash, mate, and don't worry about the neighbors.
I am and will continue to be a big fan of the Fleetwood. They deserve more good press.
The food at Fleetwood is usually good. The night cooks are almost always better than the day cooks. It's probably because there are less people at night, so the cooks can spend more time making your food perfect.
Some of the wait staff is excellent, while a few others are bitchy. It's the luck of the draw. My boyfriend and I are regulars (since we've lived up the road from Fleetwood for almost a year), and the few bad experiences we've had havent discouraged us from going there.
The food at Fleetwood is cheap and delicious. The menu is very large and they have something for almost anyone.
One thing you must do if you go to Fleetwod is get the Saganaki. OMPAH!
Hippie hash is of the most wonderful things in Lansing. Fleetwood I feel is kind of pricy and the cheap stuff has the skimpy portions. But it is delicious. The quality is real! And the servers are wonderfully friendly. I've gone with several groups of my college friends as well as with my sister and with the folks.

I've never had a bad meal at Fleetwood. In fact, everything has always been great. Highlights for me are gyros, gyro hippie hash, chicken strip pita (sub tzatziki for the sauce), and chili cheese fries. Hamburgers are also great…simple and straightforward. The homemade French fries are simply wonderful, though not as crispy and uniformly golden as fast food places. These are real potatoes and real fries.
My favorite thing about this little place is the service. It's a no-nonsense kind of joint where your server will sit down in the adjacent booth to take your order. Drink refills are prompt, unsolicited, and delivered stealthily. Why can’t I get that kind of service when I go anywhere else? If every restaurant had servers like Fleetwood I’d go out to eat more often. Because prices are low, I’m always compelled to leave a very good tip, usually 25-30 percent. This isn’t just generosity…the servers truly deserve it every time.
I just want to say that as a night shift worker I appreciate the Fleetwood Diner's 24 hour business hours. I'll take them any time over Denny's or Steak n' Shake. I really enjoy their Gyro Omlet for breakfast with a little bit of their hot sauce. I like their Chili Size meal to. Also in my experience the staff has been friendly and always keeps my coffee mug full.

I probably eat at Fleetwood at least once every other weekend for breakfast. My eggs (which I order over-medium) are always exactly right, the bacon is always good, and the potatoes are fresh, not frozen. Also, the menu is pretty extensive.
Regarding other reviews, sometimes it does take as long as (?) 20 minutes to get your food on the weekend, because the place is PACKED. To me, this is at least as good as other places. Also, it's the kind of place where everyone who comes in is a regular, so I wouldn't expect anyone to recognize you or treat you like regular unless you go there at least three times a week.
November 13, 2004 my wife and I went to the Fleetwood Diner.
My wife and I have gone to the Fleetwood Diner almost every weekend since it has opened. I would consider us regulars.
On this day, we ordered our food and twenty minutes later, we had only received our orange juice. Our server checked on our food and it was not ready.
A few minutes later, I got up, approached our server at the serving window and asked for our bill. At this point, my food was ready but my wife’s food was not.
We were late and needed to go. I told our server we were no longer interested in eating and wanted to go. With this, the server turned to the manager and told her we wanted to go. The manager grabbed the plate and said, “fine, leave then.”
I walked down to the cash register and paid my bill. Our server apologized which was nice because the manager never did.
After leaving a tip my wife and I left hungry and disappointed that as regulars we received such a cold shoulder.
I did want to let the manager know that we spend an average of $14 every time we eat and we tip around 20% or more.

Fleetwood Diner is the best thing to happen to Lansing. Not only does everthing taste home-made, but if you ask you'll find out that most of it is... from the freshly grounded coffee to their actual mashed-potatos... they even shred their own hashbrowns. I've tired almsot evertything they have to offer, and I haven't been disappointed yet.
