We have lost John Lee to another sushi bar (maybe Las Vegas).
My magician is gone.I will miss him dearly. His new ideas in serving sushi and other specialties will be lost forever to Stockton. I knew it could not last forever.
Jimmy (formally from Kikusui) is now at Matsuyamas. He is a very good addition. He has also owned his own place in Tracy so he knows all ends of this business. Good Luck to Jimmy.
John Lee is still the magician. He served tempura mussels as a new idea this week and they are out of this world! The consistency and quality of the seafood at the sushi bar
is the best in town. The waitresses are attentive to your needs. However the sushi bar could use a flat screen TV for sporting events.
I have been eating sushi for more than 30 years and I have found my magician. John Lee reminds me of the sushi cutters in Litte Tokyo in L.A. during the late 70's.They were alway trying to create different versions of maki rolls to cater to each customers taste.Tell John what you like, and don't like, then let him loose. The quality of his seafood is next to none. The next time you come into the restaurant he will remmber your name and your taste! Its almost MAGICAL !!!
I highly recommend this Japanese restaurant. The presentation of each dish is so beautiful, there is creativity in every dish. It's a little small restaurant, the ambiance is very modern and up to date decor. They're very clean. The service is pretty good, but they have the best sushi I ever had -- including the best sushi places in Orange County! ... who would have thought I would have the best sushi in Stockton at Matsuyama in Stockton!
