You might not consider the dispatch if you are in Lansing, but I can tell you it is a diamond in the rough. A little smokey but so many televisions make it a great place to watch a game.....and there is enough room so large crowds can be accomodated easily....also a game room.
Sometimes there is good service at the Dispatch (December 2007):
We had group of 13 people meet at the Dispatch around 11:30pm on a Friday night. There were quite a few people there, but it wasn't packed. The service was fast and friendly, even though the waitress told us it was only her second day. I had the chili, which was spicy but not too hot. My friend had the chicken quesadilla which was delicious as well. I would also recommend the Dispatch chicken sandwich and the Dispatch melt. At the end of the night, our waitress happily separated our checks.
Lately, the service has been quite poor (December 2008):
We had a group of 4 at the Dispatch at 11:30pm on a Friday night. We waited a long time to order drinks and get a menu. Then we waited again before we could catch the waitress to place our order. It was over 40 minutes before our food (3 sandwiches) was brought to our table. Our food had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp for some time, as our pickles were warm and quite wilted. Then we had to wait again before we could catch the waitress to get our checks. We were forced to pay with cash because the credit card machine kept saying there was an error of some kind.
I would no longer recommend the Dispatch to anyone, unless you are going there only for the bar scene and don't care about the service you receive.
