Ive been going to Cubs Park for a couple years now, both as a restaurant and as a bar. Sometimes the food has been excellent, sometimes not as good. One thing that has remained consistant: I have always been greeted with a smile from the owners. My last visit I ordered a Chicken a la Norm which is a grilled chicken sandwich with their own bbq sauce, grilled onions, hot peppers, swiss cheese, and other sandwich fixings. I also got a dozen wings with the same bbq sauce. The sandwich was the best I had in months. The wings were a couple hours old by the time I ate them (took them home), but they were still tasty, if a little dry by then. The owner was busy behind the bar, but he still had time to say a few words. My server was a little rushed, but then everyone was at that time. Definately returning.
We are all from Chicago, our family opened the first Italian restaurant in Chicago, we also have professional chiefs in our family. This was just plain "AWFUL" food. Waitress stated the Italian sausage and beef combo sandwich was the most popular and very good. Well it was so terribly salty that I could hardly eat it, the sausage was so hard , took one bite and it tasted "old" and probably cooked hours or days before and then recooked to serve. The bread was hard as a rock, was either days old, and /or cooked in the microwave too long. I paid extra for the green peppers, overly greasy and very soft, paid extra for hot peppers but they forgot to serve, but did not forget to charge me. Also the roast beef had a green/blue shine to it..only hope that we don't get sick tonight!! The fries were soo greasy, very overly fried,Appeared that the fries were pre-fried, then perhaps fried again to warm up for the customer. The gyro sandwichs were just as "awful", the pita bread was overly fried and burnt {charcoaled} in parts, they did not mind serving it this way. Waitress saw that I hardly ate my combo sandwich, told her sausage was too hard, as well as the bun. While eating our food, we over heard the cooks in the kitchen say "you better get the sausage out of oven, its been in there too long". Waitress disappears after my complaints but
I did tell her that I am not complaining just to get a free meal, I will pay the bill{ because I had alot to complain about}. She arrives back to my table with a coupon for a FREE HOTDOG {for my next visit}ha,ha, I told her that I would never return, nor do I want a free hotdog!!!! How digusting is that??? Places like the"Cub's Park Grill" give "Chicago a Bad Name" Almost forgot, the place is not very clean, service speaks for itself!!!
Second trip in for a beef sandwich . On my first time in, my beef sandwich was awesome~truly like Chicago from where I was born and lived until moving to AZ 13 yrs ago. I'm half Italian, so know a good beef sandwich ! However, my second beef sandwich wasn't so great, actually, I left most of it because it was TOO salty~thought someone dropped the salt shaker in the food. I regret not saying something about right then and there. Also, though I realize it was busy, as was our server , however, service was less than acceptable. The server cleared the items off the table/booth and was actually going to put the menus down on a dirty table (with food drips from the previous diner!)without wiping it. I had to request that the table top be wiped. The server shouted to another worker, "hey, do you have a rag?" Rag? Not so appetizing.Oddly, the server didn't even bother to ask why I left most of my sandwich. Didn't even ask "was everything ok?" I'll be back, but please watch that salt shaker, and how about a refresher course for staff to improve customer service, and that sitting down to a clean table is not too much to ask for. Thank you.
Walked in to Cubs and we wanted a booth and the table was clutered with the last patron then the waitress wanted to put the menus down before she could clean up the table. Waitress seemed flutterd and preoccupied.
Ordered the Italian beef sandwich and boy was it salty.
going to give cardiac arrest to older people.
tone down the salt folks.
I love Italian beef but had to drink tons of water because of all the salt.
