The cottage has a guitar singer that comes in every Friday night in the bar. There are a group of people that are "regular" Friday night visitors. If you want a place to go where "everybody knows your name" this is a great place to go for dinner and have a few drinks.
We went on New Years Eve with my In-Laws. He is in a wheelchair and they had good accommodations for that. The prices are high but the food is delicious and porportioned well! Loved the lit fireplace on that cold night, yummmmmmm
go there and see yourself, you will enjoy!
Our group of 8 made reservations for lunch. We were looking forward to a cozy luncheon as we had dined here on several different occasions. When we arrived, we were told that the heat and fryer was out of service but that the 2 fireplaces would help keep us warm. Needless to say, it did not. After waiting at least 15 minutes, we were finally asked if we would like to order our drinks. With chattering teeth, we all asked for hot items in hopes that we could defrost ourselves. Well, that really didn't happen because the 'hot'water that arrived (none so quickly) came lukewarm & quickly turned cold. To get refills, we waited far and between for service. After being seated at 12:15, we finally got to order our meals at about 12:45. Guess what...most of us ordered soup w/ our lunch special (suppose to be a cup-size)...well, the waitress accidently brought out a bowl for one of us. Well, the waitress got flustered when she realized her 'mistake' and instead of just not making a big deal, she took the bowl away & took the time to get a cup of the same soup! All right...we've waited a century to order, we have icicles hanging off of our nose and we are parched...gosh forbid that someone gets 2 more oz of soup! One of us had a lunch salad and while we all had our side soups & salads, she sat there for over 30 minutes before anything came her way. Not even a breadstick! After almost eating the whole salad...she asks for a piece of bread, roll, anything...guess what???? They ran out of rolls. Hmmm...seems like they don't have a bunch of anything!!!! Food, heat, service and class!!!!!!!! Anyways...nipping this in the bud...waitress was very unobservant, manager was inconsiderate & was not the least bit sorry about the inconvenience!!! It's too bad about all of this because my former experiences were not bad...service has always been a bit slow but tolerable! I will not be returning to this establishment and will make sure I will share my most recent experience with family & friends. Shame on Gateway Cottage!!!!
We (husband and self) have eaten here many time and have passed on to our closest friends... our little secret, Great food, Great service and charming. Food always Hot and tasty. close quarters at times mostly on weekends but worth making reservations for your favorite table... I take my daughters there for lunch and they are always impressed..Kudo's
First of all...great setting, elegent comfort. I expected tasteful food at a little higher cost but instead received bland food at a very high cost. Can hardly touch a dinner under $20 or a salad under $15 so I expected at least good food. I was disappointed. Stuffed mushrooms were soupy and barely tasted the filling. Coconut shrimp looked impressive but I couldn't taste the coconut and each piece was mostly batter with a smaller prawn. Service was surprisingly skimpy. There were only three tables busy and yet the waitress stopped only twice in 30 minutes.
Great food, Awesome service and wonderful ambiance! Waitstaff will take care of you and the chefs make your meal to perfection. Great for fun outings with groups or for a romantic night for two. Jeans are totally fine and if you feel like dressing up for the night you will fit in well.
The only problem was the longer wait for the meals to come because of the large groups. I would suggest making a reservation, I didn't know it was needed so we just showed up. Typically I don't like house-to-restaurant conversion but this one seemed to work. The food was worth the wait though. I'd eat here again.
The service ranked along with that typically expected at high-end restuarants such as Ruth's Chris and locally, El Gaucho with a touch of Victorian charm. The food was prepared exactly as ordered with perfect presentation. All of the items on the menu were very reasonably priced (e.g., appetizers ranged in price from $7.95 - 10.95). Causal attire including jeans was totally acceptable. The only negative: without reservations the wait can be long.
I have eaten lunch here several times and dinner once, with friends. All were excellent experiences.
The staff is cheerful and accommodating and the restaurant has an intimate country feeling. Food was presented well and was cooked properly.
The prices were reasonable and a good value.
The only negative thing was having to wait for tables during the crowded lunch hour.
