Hurray for Riverbound Cafe. The menu is original -- not the same old food found everywhere else -- and they have a good selection, no matter what your tastebuds are searching for. If you are sick and TIRED of the chain restaurants (Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday's, TGI Friday's, etc.), Riverbound will not disappoint you. And, if you have the chance, definitely try their Sunday brunch...crabcake and eggs...the best!

We've eaten at Riverbound for breakfast several times, as well as at other times of the day. Their menu is the strongest at breakfast, with creative "not your average ham and cheese omelet" choices. New Orlean's inspired crab meat omelet or maybe a California avocado omelet anyone? The pancakes are massive - are the size of the plate - so order those individually - and have a unique vanilla flavor. This is where Riverbound really stands out from the various chain restaurants in the area.
The lunch/dinner menu is frankly not as strong as the breakfast. In their effort to have a more unique menu than the generic "bacon cheeseburger" or "fried chicken salad" than the chains, there are bound to be some hits and some misses in their choices. Taking a risk means that you are taking a risk of offending those who think that Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday's and Friday's have thrilling menus. Americans should demand something more than the same old, same old from every generic chain. Nevertheless, definitely save room for the homemade desserts -- these aren't made in a central factory somewhere and trucked in via refrigerated trucks in vacuum sealed packages! Yum yum!
Like all moderately-priced restaurants, service can vary from outstanding to having the new person who just started her first waitress job yesterday. We've never had a problem with bad attitudes with the staff, just needed to be patient with people who are new to waiting tables. (Hey - everyone has to start somewhere with their first wait job.) Management is very responsive, so if you have a problem with service, speak up!

One of the worse restaurants in Mechanicsville. I would rather eat at Ruby Tuesday and I hate that place. Can't wait till Friday's opens and turns this place into ash! Low class managers and a wait staff that need serious help. Would't eat here if the food was free! There are plenty of better restaurants in Mechanicsville that are worth spending your hard earned money in.
