This is a tavern but it is distinguished by its plentiful, good and fresh food. It is a favorite among regulars who work nearby but a great experience for those passing through because it is always friendly and enjoys management oversight from the owners personally. Checkout the daily lunch specials. There is booth and table seating with Elvis and Navy artifacts on display. Full size Elvis figures and a Marilyn Monroe figure adorn the various rooms. There is outside dining beneath lit palms on the deck. In winter there is a cosy stove in the front room. It is difficult to avoid the smoke if you arrive after 9 PM. Nothing about the place is fancy but is has an authentic feel that represents real Virginia Beach.

I go to Poppa's all the time. I have never had any food that is not wonderful, and I don't get the same thing all the time. I even get carry-out wings for parties at my home. Drinks are cheap, and the people are great..not just the employees, but the "regulars". It's that kind of place that I can go not just for the bar scene, but for something to eat. Karaoke Sunday - Thursday gives great entertainment, too.
