By far the best Indian food in the Richmond area written by

This restaurant offers delicious Indian food at reasonable prices in a quiet and elegant atmosphere. A Taste of India was recently renovated and renamed in 2007 and is open Monday to Saturday for lunch and dinner. I have eaten at both meals and can attest to the high quality of food and service offered consistently. The new decorations are relatively simple, but very attractive and soothing. Service is terrific - the owners are often present, but all of the staff I have interacted with have been friendly and eager to please. And the food is by far the best Indian food I have eaten in Richmond (and I've tried most of the Indian restaurants in town!). The flavoring of their dishes is wonderful - it is easy to pick out distinct spices and flavors, yet everything is well-balanced. The dishes are all very large (even the lunch portions are large enough that I often have leftovers). Chicken, lamb, seafood, and vegetarian options are offered. I have tried chicken and vegetarian dishes, and the chicken is always tender. For specific dishes, I would recommend the Chicken Korma and the Garlic Naan.
One note- all dishes are cooked to order, so don't expect a particularly fast meal. Take-out usually takes at least 20 minutes, and expect to be at the restaurant at least one hour when dining in. However, I really like this aspect - meals here are a peaceful and truly enjoyable experience! For price information, most main dishes are $5.95-$7.95 at lunch, $9.95-$14.95 at dinner. Appetizers range from $3 to $8, and breads from $3 to $5 (there is enough for at least 2 people). The restaurant offers traditional lassi and tea, Indian beers, wine, and soft drinks.

This restaurant was recently renovated and renamed "A Taste of India". I have been going here since 2003 and it is the best Indian restaurant in Richmond. The naan is wonderful! You must treat yourself to a sweet lassi. My dish of choice is lamb tikka masala. They have the best chicken soup. It is thick and rich and comforting. The portions are generous, especially for take-out. The new owners really aim to please, so don't be afraid to ask for special items. I can't have sugar, so I asked if my sweet lassi could be made with artifical sweetener and they said yes. The new owner has made a big effort to reduce the oils used in cooking and to make the familiar dishes more healthful. A big thank you to him!
