Carriage Cafe. Hope you're not in a hurry! written by

The Carriage Cafe makes great sandwiches. It's in a wonderful secluded location behind the Triad Center. In the spring and summer it's wonderful to sit out on the patio and enjoy the day and the food.
The people operating it are really nice folks, BUT they don't know how to run a smooth efficient restaurant. Their system is broken. They can't quickly accomodate large crowds. Even on a slow day, be prepared to wait 20 minutes for a sandwich. On a busy day-- forget it. You'll wait a half hour or more. I waited an hour once because they gave my sandwich to someone else. Often orders are incorrect. You'll ask for grapes and get chips or they'll completly forget something. Often they're out of simple things like say, WATER, juice, grapes, napkins, cups etc... It's madening!
The problem? 1) They're understaffed. They're tyring to do things on the cheap. There's not enough people in the kitchen to prepare food quickly. Sometimes you'll stand at the counter waiting to order and not a soul is around. Where are they?
2) If you pre-order over the phone, you have to stand in line behind other people placing their order just to pay for yours which is (hopefully) already done-- making the point of calling ahead useless. They need separate areas for placing orders and for pick up.
3) They're expensive. Your basic sandwich and drink will run you at least $8.00. 4) There's just a very lazy, casual attitude there that doesn't promote quick service. They're just kids really. Not very professional. Not the way to run a restaurant.
So if you're not in a hurry, don't mind waiting, don't really care if your order is right and money is no object... the Carriage Cafe is the place for you!
