BEST Jalisco - BEST Bargain, BEST Food! written by samovila

Everyone in San Antonio loves a good "Jalisco" and there are hundreds of them, if not thusands, across the city. However, this Jalisco just off of I-10 and Wurzbach (in the shopping plaza behind the HEB) is by far the best my husband and I have been to.
We first visited this Jalisco because we lived in a nearby apartment complex. We've moved about 15 miles to the North Central side of town and we STILL go out of our way to visit this Jalisco... and we wouldn't do that for just ANY Jalisco! :)
Breakfast there is great! The tortillas are handmade, the food is fresh, and extremely reasonably priced! My husband loves the breakfast platter-- he always gets scrambled eggs with ham (there are other platters and combos to pick from), and it comes with potatoes, refried beans, fresh tortillas and salsa, and this platter is HUGE (you can easily make 3 or more tacos out of the eggs alone) and the whole platter costs UNDER $3! You can't beat it! On weekends, they serve Pozole, too, and unless you have a gigantic appetite, the so-called "small bowl" should be plenty; you can practically mix a cake in the bigger one! And this also costs just a few dollars! I've never had the Caldo or the Menudo but on a recent trip it seemed that nearly 1/2 the patrons were eating Caldo, so it can't be bad! The quesadilla plate is a great bargain, not to mention delicious! Three tortillas stuffed with steak and cheese, plus all the sides. The enchiladas are also fabulous.
The place used to be a lot smaller but within the last year or so they bought out some of the neighboring businesses and expanded their space. The decor is nothing special (a bunch of tables, some booths, a mural or two and a jukebox) but I would much rather pay for great food than glitz any day!
PS to El Rodeo de Jalisco 2-- PLEASE OPEN A LOCATION UP NORTH! WE MISS YOU! (And the closest thing to a Jalisco up near the Blanco/Stone Oak area is a Taco Cabana :( Good, but no comparison to this Jalisco!)

This is quite possibly the best Mexican food in San Antonio. I go there often and have tried almost all of the food and everything is always perfect. The Carne Asada with Nopalitos is to die for. This place far exceeds any other restaurant around (especially when considering price). It is affordable and delicious. Of course, it is not much by way of atmosphere, but not many places are in San Antonio. Definitely worth any drive.

Simply the best breakfast tacos in all of San Antonio! The papas con chorizo tacos are the best. Good quality ingredients and fairly quick service. Located off I-10 at Wurzbach, there is plenty of parking. This restaurant is well worth the trip from any part of San Antonio. The prices here simply can't be beat, a good value for such high quality.
