    Best Indian Food in Columbia

I've tried all the Indian restaurants in Columbia, and this is hands-down the best. Both North and South Indian cuisine. Try chicken mahkni, saag paneer . . .

    Bombay Bistro

The parking lot was nearly empty at noon on the Tuesday we visited. Nevertheless, we wanted to try something new and give this place a chance--you just never know when you might be the first to stumble upon something really fantastic. Well, it wasn't exactly that. It's a small restaurant that serves up what appears to be authentic Indian cuisine in a cozy atmosphere, but it will need to undergo a major transformation if it ever plans on attracting an average size lunch crowd. There were no greeters when we came in so we seated ourselves, which was not difficult because there were only two other people eating in the restaurant. The waiter, who was most likely also the owner, was kind and attentive, but was difficult to understand and made little effort to explain the procedure, even though it must have been obvious we were first-time patrons. We had a coupon for an entree purchase, but the buffet seemed to be all that was offered (again, we weren't sure and weren't exactly getting any help figuring out what to do). The buffet offered little variety and some of the food did not appear to be fresh (possibly reheated leftovers from the previous day). Since most things were covered with sauces, as you would expect at an Indian restaurant, it was difficult to determine what each dish was. There were handwritten signs above the dishes, but we couldn't figure out which sign went with which dish and we also weren't familiar with the names of the dishes. The curry chicken was actually quite good and not too spicy, but much to our disappointment, the rice was dry. None of us finished what was on our plates and we didn't go up for seconds. The most shocking part of the visit was paying the bill. The buffet cost nearly $8/person, which didn't include a drink or dessert. Overall we were thoroughly disappointed with our visit and would not recommend this restaurant unless you are interested in Indian culture & authentic cuisine and aren't afraid to try something new.
