I eat at Matteo's 3-5 times a month and would like to give my honest review. The food here is excellent. Being from an italian family, you can pretty much judge the flavor profiles. The fried Calamari and the shrimp vesuvio are excellent. Unlike in the other review the service is outstanding. I can't say enough about the waiters who go out of the way to help you. The only thing i would like to see change a bit would be the menu. It is always the same even the nightly specials. If they gave different options on the specials it would be nice. Other than that it is a great restaurant with great food. You won't be disappointed.

The food was average, if not below average and the prices were exorbitant. Nothing comes with the entrees - i.e. a vegetable, a potato, a side of ziti. Insane. Extremely loud dining room too. With no more than two fett between us, my table mate and I needed to shout to hear each other. Being a 30 something that frequents establishments all over NYC, it would help if Mateo's maybe added some side dishes to the already high price of dinner or lowered their existing prices. I know we won't be returning.

The food was average. The service was okay. The prices were ridiculous. I dine out at least 5 nights/week. Never have I seen a plain average piece of fish with NO sides cost $33!! The waiter never mentioned prices and said he is not supposed to tell unless asked. This is decepetive. No way would I go back. I went there twice on the same night- the first time and the last time.

The atmosophere and food are fantastic. The wait staff and manager and owner are very friendly. You really can enjoy a taste of Italian family style at Matteo's. When you go you have to try there specialty drink "Strawberry Matteo" it is out of this world. Also excellent for that special affair. They have 2 party rooms. Again Matteo's an experience you will never forget.
