I went to Beggar's Banquet with a large group of friends for "Wine Wednesday" (half-off bottles of wine). I was expecting a boring night of sitting around in an empty bar... but I was wrong! Beggar's was already pretty full around 9pm, and was packed by the end of the night. My friends were seated around a large table in the back section (finally enough room for all of us!). The service was quick and friendly, and we never had to wait to order more wine from their extensive wine list, or even to get more glasses of water. As the night wore on, the lights were dimmed, a disco-like strobe light was turned on, and the music turned up, giving Beggar's an energetic, club-like feeling.
I would recommend Beggar's Banquet to anyone looking for a club-like feel, fun with friends, and good wine on a Wednesday night!
Beggar's used to be a really good restaurant but since it's closest competitor closed, it has gone down in every noticeable area. I had their "signature" london broil dinner and the meat was over cooked. We talked to the waitress and she said the cook just didn't know how to do it right. It's become an ok place to go when all the other places are jammed but it's really too bad because it used to be so much better not that long ago
Beggar's is a place with lots of character, and the food is consistently good. I wouldn't say we were "blown away" by the menu (very few places in Lansing are that good), but their wine selection is very good and service was excellent. Expect a good meal in a comfortable atmosphere.
The best restuarant to hang out at or take a date to. Beggars has a creative and interesting menu. The food is delicous and fantastic and they always have a fresh display of art. Wine night is a good time to enjoy jazz and Sunday brunch is a real treat.
