i like this restaurant so much.because their buffet price is the chiefest price in this nation.
and they stick to small amount sushi rice but inside contents is full. that's why thier roll is looking small comparing with other restaurant.as a japanese guy i tried every restaurant in lansing i think midori is the best taste.

Too slow, too bad written by azielinski
Last visited this restaurant on March 21, 2008

My department usually loves Midori and we frequent there often despite the slow service. This time though the service was horrible! We were seated and after 20 minutes I had to flag down our waiter to take our orders and then had to ask him to bring us water. He forgot to give us our soup and salads, until we reminded him and then after he brought our soups and we were all done, we had to ask him for our salads. Two out of the seven orders were wrong and our friend was told that he had ordered too much from the All-You-Can-Eat buffet! The same friend was told he could have a sushi combo for the same price as the buffet, but when he went to leave, they gave him 6 pieces of sushi instead of 10, and still charged him the full amount. When he questioned the waiter, the waiter said “well sometimes 10 pieces doesn’t always mean 10 pieces.” What?? We all left very disgruntled and vowed we would never return. The drive to East Lansing may be a little longer, but it’ll be worth it!

My coworkers and I have frequented Midori and, in the past, the proximity to our workplace has been the primary attraction. Today, we had to flag the waiter over after being seated for 20 minutes without water. He forgot our salads, and, despite the orders being written down for him, messed up two of seven. One coworker was told that he had "ordered too much" to get the prized "All You Can Eat" buffet. I, one of the mix ups, settled for a regular spicy tuna roll when my Albacore Fantasy was a california roll draped in red snapper, instead of what the menu described as a spicy tuna roll with albacore and avacado. I was charged the higher specialty roll price, despite the fact that I did not eat the incorrect roll. It wasn't worth the time to argue at that point, and two hours later, we made it back to work...it would've been significantly longer if I hadn't requested the correct roll to go and my bill at the same time. And it didn't even taste that good. I don't think we'll be heading back. Ever.

Terrible Service written by sassy2

I will not be returning. After waiting 15 minutes, we flagged a waiter down who seemed upset to be bothered. Ten minutes later we received our drinks, we had to ask for our soups and salad. Our sushi orders were wrong, the all you can eat was not brought out and then was told "ordered too much off the all you can eat". Asked to switch order to a lunch to go that advertised 10 rolls, instead received 6 rolls and was overcharged. Ended up leaving without eating or food after two hours. Will not be returning.

Most horrible lunch experience I have EVER HAD! written by grostb
Last visited this restaurant on March 21, 2008

My boss had warned me that service was slow, but I decided to go with several co-workers.

It was the most horrible lunch experience that I have ever had!
First, when the waiter seated us, he decided to cram all 7 of us onto one table. Then after about 10 minutes, 3 men came into the restaurant and sat at the next table. They were given drinks, soup and had their orders taken before the waiter even asked if we wanted water!

We waved the waiter over and asked for drinks and tried to give him our orders. He then realized that he should get paper to write with. So he walked away and came back a few minutes later.

He took our orders (this was about 15-20 minutes AFTER we sat down) and we waited......

We waved him down again and asked about the soup and salad that we thought we would get with our meals. A little while later, he then brought them out with our drinks. And we waited..

It was just over one hour when the waiter began slowly bring out the food, one or 2 meals at a time with at least 5 minutes between trips.

My food was supposed to be hot, but it came out cold and tasted like --- I don't know what.

The waiter never came back to refill drinks or ask if everything is alright.
Three of our party ended up taking their food to-go because after over 1½ hours of waiting, their food still hadn't emerged. One of those 3 looked into his to-go box and found the order wrong. When he asked, he was told that just because the menu says 10 pieces, that doesn't REALLY mean 10 pieces, so he refused the food and refused to pay.

I will never attempt to eat at Midori's again. How awful!

FOCUSED ON QUALITY FOOD written by sean1279
Last visited this restaurant on January 28, 2008

The ambiance is not so great and the curb appeal is low, but the service and the food is top notch. the sushi chefs must have a lot of experience to make some of the rolls offered on the menu. i have yet to try the korean non-sushi dishes. give it a try!

It's just OK. written by anonymous
Last visited this restaurant on January 18, 2008

Midori's is primarily a sushi bar. The menu is not extensive, and has not changed since the place opened. I have tried the entree's but generally get the appetizer sampler. The BBQ chicken and shrimp tempura are over-cooked and tough. The salad is delicious but the portion is small. Everything is ala cart. We've eaten there occasionally over the last five years and unless I stop off for sushi, I won't be back soon.

this restaurant has great quality of sushi by traditional way. i tried other restaurant in east lansing but their quality and shshi men's skill was not satisfied with me.
specially their big roll had only for rice.
nobody want to eat rice only. but midori has right size of rice and content like tokyo in japan. i will go this place again.

Bad Korean food written by anonymous
Last visited this restaurant on March 18, 2007

Having lived in NY City for many years (where the Korean food is wonderful), I have to say this is the worst tasting Korean food I have had. Lansing is not known for great authentic Korean food but the complete lack of flavor in their dishes and the watered down stews make this a definite place to avoid; ate there once and never again!

Disappointing written by ZuG
Last visited this restaurant on February 01, 2007

Went out with my girlfriend and her mom to dinner here. My girlfriend and I are both sushi fanatics. We settled on the $45 sushi/sashimi platter and were both extremely disappointed. The meat was not of sushi quality, it did not seem very fresh, and it is some of the most expensive in town for quantity vs price. Neither of us were filled up by the meager offerings.

I'll be sticking to other area sushi restaurants in the future.

Not worth the money written by jeffreysk
Last visited this restaurant on December 12, 2006

I have dined at all the local sushi houses and found Midori served the smallest sushi rolls and were one of the most expensive. If you typically order 4 to 5 rolls to split for a meal, you will leave hungry and have spent over $50 compared to spending the same amount and leaving full. Midori needs to review their sushi roll size and provide more value for the money.

Good Service Mediocre Food written by sparty1969
Last visited this restaurant on January 25, 2006

I have been to Midori several times. When it originally opened I was very excited (only Sushi place on West side of Lansing).

The ambiance and service are always good. The weak link in the chain is the Sushi and the speed at which it is prepared. Compared to other Sushi places (East Lansing and Okemos) their sushi is smaller and dryer. We have gone their several times (just to give them a second chance) but the sushi remains the same. But they do have the best dressing and miso soup in town.

Their selection of Korean food is good and it always tastes great but it’s kind of pricey for West Side Lansing.

If it's Sushi you want I would make the trip to East Lansing.

West-Side Sushi Stop written by AMShinn
Last visited this restaurant on November 14, 2005

My boyfriend and I have stopped in multiple times when on he west side of town, and have had good luck finding tasty snacks. The Pajun pancake and crunchy vegetable tempura are both good appetizers. (Ebi shumai can be cold in the center sometimes, give them a miss.)
Midori's miso soup is light and rich. We usually get sushi rolls to follow. The Caterpillar roll is light, despite avocado draped on top. Boston roll's mayo is suprisingly tasty. New York, Spider and Tsutsumi rolls are all good as well.
We usually fequent sushi places closer to East Lansing, but this is a good bet for when you have a sushi craving on the west side of town. We'll return.

Sorry Midori written by password

I have to agree, the sushi buffet is nothing special. I've been to many sushi buffet style restaurants, and this one is substandard. Although when I was there, the sushi bar was constantly replenished, the variety was mediocre at best.

few varieties, bad services written by gregg
Last visited this restaurant on April 25, 2005

I spent $15(including tax & tip) for lunch buffet last month. Unfortunately, it's not quite a pleasant experience. The chefs couldn't make sushi fast enough for the quests. As a result, the sushi bar was empty from time to time. The sushi was OK. But, unlike most sushi buffets I went to, this store didn't offer any side dishes, fruits, salad etc. I would not recommend this store because of the lack of vareity and the malfunction of 'supply chain'.

mediocre and overpriced written by shmainiac

if you're looking for authentic korean food, you won't find it at midori. their adaptation of korean food is something like an american-asian fusion style of cooking but, it doesn't quite work. you can't really "americanize" korean or japanese cuisine because it ends up tasting like a disorganized, hodge-podge of an experiment. i highly suggest korea house both for authentic korean food and sushi. as a korean amerasian, this place is reminiscent of my korean grandmother's cooking.

Avoid lunch buffet!! written by Drewww
Last visited this restaurant on December 28, 2005

I haven't tried their dinner yet so I can't comment. But I do NOT recommend their lunch buffet. It's pathetic. Period. I have been to many sushi buffets on the east coast, the west coast, and in Asia, but never found one so pathetic. If you ever been to a sushi buffet, you should know that they usually offer, at least but limited to, cold soba noodles, tofu, pickled cucumber, salad, fruit, and a couple of disserts. But you won't find any, I mean ANY, of these at Midori! I was so disappointed on my first visit, might as well go to Old Country buffet!
