    FLY

The food was amazing but a couple sitting next to me saw a fly in the rice. The cook simply just scooped the fly out and continued to cook the food. He should of trashed the rice and started that part of the meal over. Its the least he could of done sense you are paying 20 dollars for a meal.

    Awful management

Normally, we love to go to Ukai for a fun time and decent food. The past few times we have been there, minus the chefs, we have had horrible service from the owners and managers. They were the rudest people we have ever met. On more than one occassion they screwed up our dinner reservation than could care less about correcting it. A special occasion is supposed to be special and they made it anything but that. Even after having a horrifying experience with the people there, we all attempted to go back and had an even worse experience. No one should be treated, like we were treated. We only go there b/c unfortunately it is the only place in Lansing that has a hibaci grill. Other cities have better hibaci grills, but I guess you take what you can get. If you want the food, just get take out b/c it is not worth the time with the horrible service that the management gives, especially given the circumstances the economy is in.

I took a couple of my friends from out of town, as soon as we walked in there was a pungent smell. We asked to be move but still we could smell a sewer smell, not appetizing. We sat at the grill and during our meal the chef was twirling his knife and dropped it and missed my friends face, I was mortified. The staff had apoligized, it should have never happened. I will never go back.

Best place to eat with great entertainment

This place has awesome food and excellant entertainment. It's great for Family, Friends whatever. The salad and soup there is phenominal. I highly suggest eating there anytime. The service there is great. They are very friendly and accomidate any need you have. The sushi is great also. When I go, I order the Hibachi Chicken with fried rice or Hibachi Chicken and Steak. They are both very very good. I would go there anytime of the week, but you got to be careful, that place has A LOT of service so you always need to make reservations.

    My favorite restaurant

Ukai has been my favorite restaurant for years. My husband and I typically go for sushi, the best in Lansing, but we have eaten the hibachi as well. We live south of Jackson and make the trek to Ukai at least once every 3 weeks. The staff knows us by name, they greet us with a friendly smile every time we walk through the door, and we NEVER leave dissappointed. For less than a trip to a major chain we can experience a meal together that's not only healthy, it's delicious. I would reccommend Ukai to anyone who'd like a great meal at a fair price. You won't be dissapointed.

    UKAI -YES!

Think of Ukai as a superior non-corporate alternative to Benihana. If you’ve ever dined at a teppanyaki (traditional, hibachi style Japanese steakhouse), you will be impressed with Ukai. If you’ve never experienced a teppanyaki before, take a group of friends or your family and be prepared for an evening full of flavor and culinary entertainment. During my three experiences of dining at Ukai, I have been delighted with both the food and service. The dining area was always antiseptically clean and they make killer Mai Tai's too.

    Good Food/Fun Place

    • Your Rating: 0/5 Stars

The food is cooked on the grill in front of you.
If you get a fun cook you will have a fun meal.
Dull uninspired cook will tend to put a damper on the meal.

One night as we were leaving the car behind us hit us.
My wife went into UKAI to call the police.
The manager did not want to let her use the phone to call 911.
My wife persisted and the manger wanted to know if the call was local? Come on!
My wife called 911 and the dispatcher said this was a non-emergency and gave her another number to call back on.
When my wife began to call the non-emergency number the manager insisted one call only. My wife continued to make the call and then left when the call was completed.
We had just spent over $80 and we cannot make a local call to 911. We did not go back for almost a year.
