Our party of 7 enjoyed fresh, flavorful, authentic Middle Eastern food, served by an attentive waitress. She forgot the appetizer but we ate very well.
My son and I had their lunch buffet to try a few of their menu items. The buffet had only one main meat item (chicken), one bean dish, two rice choices, one soup, and a limited salad. The food and service were very good, but the buffet was very limited.
Every time we eat at Sahara's, we always get a great value for our money. The mango iced tea is great, the lemony-flavored soup is out of this world, but I'd drive from Grand Ledge for some of their hummus - the BEST!!
Usually, the owner goes around at lunch to greet the tables which is a nice touch.
I have been here several times and the food is always good. They have a lunch buffet but I recommend ordering off the menu. The service, however, is absolutely horrible. Today it was almost comical. The front entrance was still locked during the lunch hour. They were playing some combination of popular and house (techno) music. Our food was delivered individually, so some people got watch while others were able to eat. The appetizer never came. Our drink order was wrong. Not everyone got their soup. The bill was a disaster. It simply could not have got any worse. I enjoyed the food but I have no plans to return again.
I worked in the kitchen for a day. Blood from chicken all over floor, black spots on peppers, washed dishes with cold water and no soap! DISGUSTING!! NEVER AGIAN! And they never even washed there hands. The stove was covered in black completely. And they used dirty knives to cut up the chicken and peppers
My wife and I have eaten at Sahara's since it opened several years ago. It is consistently a great dining experience. Whether one has the buffet or orders a meal from the menu the food is authentic, fresh and mouthwatering good. The owner/chef takes his cooking seriously.
A real treat for the occasional Mediterranean meal and varied and healthy enough for weekly repeats or daily lunches.
If you have never had Lebanese cooking this is the place to start. Great!
i have tried all other middle eastern restaurants, but really the best yet is sahara's in okemos, on okemos and jolly rd, the food fresh, great taste, and i feel good after eatting. the flaver is full. i take my friends family and my self there, 2 to 3 times a week. am writting this to tell you that you should try it too
Growing up on the east side of the state and enjoying grandma's and mom's homemade lebanese food and a few spectacular restaurants over there, it took some time for me to find a middle eastern restaurant in the Lansing area that compared to what I grew up having...I've eaten at all of them now I think! Sahara's is phenomenal and is always a great dining experience and take out is wonderful too. The food is rich with flavor, the staff is courteous and helpful, portions are enough for leftovers usually, and it tastes homemade! I just wish I lived closer to it so I didn't have to drive across town...but it's SO worth it!
Great menu items: hashwi (best I've ever had), arayis, grape leaves, fattoush, tabbouli, kafta, lamb kabobs, chicken kabobs, sandwiches....
Sahara's, in Okemos, without question has the best Middle Eastern food that we have consumed. There is another local restaurant in town that, for years, we thought was the best ME cuisine available, but after overhearing a conversation about the amazing food at Sahara's, my wife and I just had to give it a try.
The food is outstanding. Each items is bursting with flavor and freshness that is unique to Sahara's - and lends to its authentic homemade taste.
The hummus and baba ganoush are of exceptional taste and quality; as are the samosas, grape leaves, falafels, tabouli, and yogurt-cucumber salad. Of the times we have been there, each of these dishes varied just enough in taste for one to recognize the trait of freshly prepared food.
The majadra and burgel that are offered in the vegetarian samplers are the best we've ever had. They are full of subtle hints of spice and flavors that are not found at other restaurants.
The servers are fast, pleasant, and do not mind explaining how a dish is prepared or what a dish contains.
As with most Middle Eastern food, this restaurant is very vegetarian friendly - including its own separate color-coated vegetarian menu.
I eat at Sahara's every 2 weeks. Good fresh food. Reseanable prices. Haven't tried their lunch buffet yet.
