Gumbo was fantastic! Muffalatta(sp?)was a little dry. Atmosphere and service was fantastic. Even got to shoot the breeze with the owner. Will go back for sure!
My family lives in Elk Rapids. Whenever I am there to see them, I go to Pearl's at least once. The food is great. Must have the cornbread stuffing. I love it. Everything I have ever tried there has been great. The only thing I would change would be the fried pickles. They are spears and that's just not how we do it in the south. I live in Texas where we have good food, but Pearl's is my favorite restaurant of all time. If you like Cajun food and you are in Northern Michigan, it's the place to go.
We have eaten at Pearl's once or twice a year for 10-12 years. While the menu selections have always been good, our recent visit (11/29/2008) was the best ever. Even though a very large group was just leaving the service was prompt as was the kitchen. A couple of years ago the food preparation was a bit more hit or miss, but this visit every thing our party ordered was excellent. The Chicken Breast Florentine was out of this world, the bronzed cat fish was melt in the mouth tender and were else can you get collard greens like this! I wish they were closer to were I live.
My brother plays music in travers once a year and me and my wife go up for a long weekend. well the first thing we do is make a beeline for pearls my wife loves the bloodymarrys and the food is excelent. we have ben to new orleans and food wise this saves plane fare.
A dozen oysters on the half shell (complete with horseradish, homemade cocktail sauce & Tobasco) followed by the Cajun Sampler, downed by a tall, cold Hurricane, with a background of Zydeco and you'll think your in the middle of Jackson Square (Plaza d' Armas). Pearl's is simply Nawlins North. It can't be beat!
Our friends from Saugatuck frequent Pearl's for a day trip for dinner. We had never been there but are familiar with the "real deal" Cajun food after living down South.
WOW-this is IT! With all the ambience as well.
Do yourself a favor and go soon and as often as you can.
Went with a group of 14 and were seated immediately even though the restaurant was pretty full. The waiter was friendly and attentive, and our food was served quickly. The walnut and dried cherry salad was large and tasty. The jambalaya was more of a chicken dish with some rice than traditional jambalaya. They had good mixed drinks and a long and varied list of alcoholic beverages. A life-size alligator and lots of bead necklaces added to the fun atmosphere.
Simply the BEST cajun food north of the Mason-Dixon...period! Great atmosphere, tastiest oysters on the half shell served with mix your own horse radish/Lea & Peron's hot sauce. Mud-bugs and shrimp swamped in authentic cajun sauces. Don't be surprised if someone throws you some beads! You simply have to eat here!
Was on a mini vacation for our anniversary, told to try it - was wonderful - po'boy and a pint for $5.00 on Wednesdays - who could beat that - had blackened catfish, have to try it - everything was delicious - including the Cherry Margarita! Decorations were very authentic and the atmospher is warm and friendly, well worth the drive over from Traverse City - only took another 15 minutes!
Was in Elk Rapids last week and ate there twice.
Blackend pork loin and the Chicken Florentine. 2 bowls of gumbo!!
If you like southern style Cajun type of food you will love Pearls!
Great wait staff too!
I like to hold 10s for perfection. Pearls was a very solid 9.
Pearl's was a GREAT little food find. From the atmosphere to the Hurricane's Pearl's is fun, FINE (good food, great price) dining. I had Bronzed Mahi-Mahi (I wish they could BRONZE the scallops). Fresh Greens on the side with THE BEST Sweet Potatoe fries and slaw I have ever had. The food was presented well and the portion was just right. Two Hurricaine's topped the meal off. It was the first meal in a long time that was a pleasure to clean my plate. I have been to New Orleans several times. The food and atomosphere at Pearl's equal many of the New Orlean's restaurants. Can't wait til my next vist.
On a recent vacation to Traverse City area, where to eat was almost always answered by "Pearl's." It was not a disappointment either for food or ambience. Oysters on the half shell were great. Just a fun, unique place to dine. Would definitely recommend and hope to be back!
