After leaving Corpus Christi and the state for a decade, I really missed the pizza I grew up with! Now back in the state, everytime I have the chance to visit family in CC, they know I definitely have to have my Panjo's. Their pizza crust is so delicious and they don't slather it in pizza sauce - the toppings are fresh and piled high - just thinking about it makes me want to eat their pizza. Fun, relaxed ambience - a great place to meet family and friends and have delicious pizza and a cold drink.
As a native Houstonian, I remember eating at Panjo's many times before the mid '80s oil crunch caused them to close their doors in Houston. Not having Panjo's for 25 years, my hopes were very high and I couldn't wait to experience their unique style of pizza. I was not disappointed in the pizza! It was fantastic - a thin and crispy crust made for a delicious pepperoni pizza. Combined with the same style decor, picnic tables and very casual atmosphere, it felt like I was back at the Memorial and West Belt location in Houston. There's even a player piano and the banjo players come by at least once a year.
This place has been around for longer than I can remember. A "mom-and-pop" eatery that has remained on everyone's lips since they opened their doors. What they lack in aumbiance they more than make up for in price, high-quality of food and obvious pride in their commitment to the community. Though it's true that things went south for a while when one of their daughters fought, then died from cancer, they came back as strong as ever, holding tight to the family values Panjo's was based on from the beginning.
been eating at panjos for years only real pizza in town, most other pizzas in town natl chain junk. its old place not very pretty but fantastic pizza always a lot of topping and cheese, beer served in frozen mugs good and cold. and bibba is the best cant find people like that anymore. will keep going back forever.
The last time I ate at this formerly excellent pie place, it had definitely gone south. Once a thriving, yet modest chain of restaurants based in Corpus Christi, and having at least two outlets in Houston, (now long defunct there)Panjo's is sadly one of the worst places to have pizza. My last visit was marred by mediocre quality, and worst yet, a rampant presence of Cockroaches... Not the large variety, but even more alarming- the German, or small species of the vermin which were prevalent at the picnic bench seating that is unique to the decor of the restaurant. I quickly fled, somewhat bilious, and swore never to return. No wonder the chain has shrunken to just one outlet.
