We have eaten here many times. Everyone we bring to this restaurant has always loved it! The Pad Thai is exceptional and you always have more than enough food to eat, with plenty of leftovers (which by the way tastes just as good the next day). There is lots of variety for dinner, and the lunches, especially the specials are fabulous. We have never had a bad meal! The service has always been good. Having tried numerous Thai restaurants, this one is the only place to go.
My husband and I have enjoyed the numerous Thai restaurants in Ann Arbor and Thai Jasmine in Saline since moving here 9 years ago. The Old Siam Kitchen is our all time favorite. When I talk to other Thai fans about restaurants, Siam Kitchen is always mentioned as a favorite.
The appetizer Tiger Cries is fantastic; we order it on every visit. My husband's favorite is #43 (a curry) and mine is #44, a spicy meat dish with green beans and lots of chili.
I must admit that after reading the negative review about lunches, that we eat there for dinner. The one time I ate there with friends at lunch time, I was sorry not to be able to get my usual dinner meal in a smaller portion for lunch. Go at dinner time and you will find a plethora of delicious choices!
Their Satay Gai, a chicken appetizer served with a peanut sauce and toast, is second to none.
Their Sizzling Beef is unique and exquisite. (The rice served with it and all other non-noodle dishes is quite good by the way.)
Their Goong Phad Prig is a tasty shrimp dish served in a spicy garlic sauce.
Their Phad Thai is served with an unusual orange flavor. It does not keep well, so it should be eaten immediately. It is great once you get used to it.
Finally, the service is quite slow, so expect that, sit back, and relax. The ambiance is quite nice, so it is a very pleasant wait - well worth it for the quality of the food.
(Average price of a dish is around $11 to $14)

We went to Old Siam for lunch today. They had a horrible lunch menu. It was very much overpriced for lunch. We both got lunch specials which consisted of a very small portion of what the restaurant perhaps considered an entree but was far from it. I had shrimp with a variation on a sweet cocktail sauce, while my boyfriend has a very un-thai beef dish...overall the restaurant offers the facade of thai while, in reality, it is much closer to a mix between a banquet microwave entree (down to the instant rice) and chinese cuisine.
