My husband and I have been to the melting pot many times in the past - with our two children, but the two of us had been to see a show at TPAC and decided afterwards to stop by and see if we could still eat without a previous reservation. We arrived at around 9:25 and were told it would be no problem, the wait would only be 15 - 20 minutes. After 45 minutes of waiting, and seeing a couple who came in after we did ( also w/o a reservation) be seated, we asked the manager why this had happened, and we explained our waiting situation. He told us that "some people subscribe to the sqeaky wheel philosophy, he didn't , but some people did." When my husband asked if that meant we had to be loud and complaining to get seated, he said "no, just that some people subscribe to that philosophy." What a load of CRAP!!! I couldn't believe he had said that. Every one of the desk employees, as well as the blut-shirted managers, had passed up sitting there about a million times as we waited, and not one of them said a word to us. And the manager himself didn't even apologize to us for our crazy wait time. Then when a hostess finally started to seat us, I asked her why she had done that - seat others who came in after we did, but they had complained - she gave us some bull crap about the fact that there had been a problem with the computers and the shifts. I knew that was a lie, and I called her on it. We had not even been put in the computer, since we were just a walk-up, and I had seen her write our name on the list. And there had been no shift change since we had arrived. The same 3 women who were at the desk when we arrived were still there when we left. After she left us at out table with our menus, I was so mad at how we had been treated and then blatantly lied to, that I couldn't even eat. So we walked out. And I doubt we will ever eat there again! I hate that because that had been my favorite restaurant, and we had been there numerous times for birthdays, mother's days, etc. But their behavior was abhorent, not to mention just plain rude and unprofesstional. If you decide to eat there, good luck. Just make sure you complain, and you probably will get a table.
We had a blast. A liesurely two hours of conversation and relaxing fondue dining. Our service was ouotstanding. Phillip introduced himself and then memorized all of our names (6) he was entertaining yet unintrusive.
We will be going back for another "Big Night Out"
