After viewing the unsanitary way Louis Pappas has their employees preparing their food I will NEVER eat there again. I used to enjoy going to Pappas and getting their Chopped Greek Salad, until I watched one of their employees make it. First of all, where they prepare the food it is completely open to where you can see everything that is going on. So I watched. The employee who was wearing gloves (which whats the point if your going to basically rub them on the floor) and preparing the food CONTINUOUSLY rubbed his hands on the dirty tile beam in the middle of the kitchen, was digging in his pants to pull them up and touching every surface IMAGINABLE all while preparing my food and waiting for the others to put the different things in the salad. It might not sound that bad to some but believe me the employees they hire there do NOT need to be making the food! Pappas is not expensive but not cheap and I'm sorry but for the money I pay for that food and the way they are trying to come off as not being fast food I would expect someone with a little more experience and brains to be making the food then who they hire. The manager was also a little rude when I said I didn't want the food and for them to give me my money back. Which shocked me...aren't they suppose to be a little more serious about their job and apologize?! VERY POOR SERVICE! I will NEVER go back there!
It all started with the hummus... No, let me go back: I order ice tea and I am given a glass, okay, only there is no regular ice tea ready, it is being brewed. Okay, that takes 10 minutes, but then comes the hummus. The hummus is atrocious, completely inedible, unless you like the taste of raw garlic. Undeniably the worst hummus I have ever had. Bad hummus can at least be called a "dip" but I cannot classify this thing any way other than how to scare someone off. So, I can deal with that. Though at this point, it's starting to irritate me that I do not have any ice tea.
My conjecture is the single server working has over heard me complain. He politely asks every other table near us how they are enjoying their meals, but never once asks us. In fact, when he brings out the second course, he not only does not ask if we like the first course, he also does not take it away, so as to avoid any confrontation. In my book this classifies as extremely poor service.
If I may back up my review:
- In regards to the hummus, I am of Middle Eastern origin and even though nobody makes hummus like my mother's, most Greek restaurants I have been to, at least come up with a good imitation.
- I have worked many MANY years in the restaurant industry, starting as a host in high school... dealing with people who are unhappy is part of the job AND secondly, I am not looking for freebies.
An honest complaint towards a bad product should be desired by any business. The hummus issue is excusable, the iced tea coincidental, but the service unexcusable.
